In 2019, the traffic safety situation in the area had many positive changes, traffic accidents decreased in all 3 criteria compared to the same period last year. From December 16, 2018 to December 15, 2019, the whole province had 294 traffic accidents, killing 182 people and injuring 210 people. Compared to the same period in 2018, there were 10 fewer accidents, 12 fewer deaths, and 8 fewer injuries.
Most of them are caused by reasons such as: not paying attention, exceeding the speed limit, driving in the wrong lane, illegally overtaking, not giving way...
According to the report, there are 7 localities that have reduced traffic accidents in all 3 criteria, including: Vinh City, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Hoang Mai Town, Thanh Chuong, Hung Nguyen. There are 5 localities that have increased traffic accidents in all 3 criteria, including: Nghia Dan, Tan Ky, Quy Chau, Nam Dan, Ky Son.
Over the past year, the provincial police have focused on directing and mobilizing maximum forces to strengthen patrols, control, and handle violations of traffic safety. The provincial police have recorded 103,445 administrative violations, temporarily detained 2,113 cars, 20,986 motorbikes, and 568 electric motorbikes. Violators have complied with the decision to punish 96,176 cases, transferring over 94 billion VND to the State Treasury.
The Department of Transport Inspectorate has established specialized inspection teams to focus on inspecting the management of road and inland waterway transport, driver training and testing, protection of traffic structures, means of transport, vehicle load... As a result, in 2019, 1,752 violations were handled (an increase of 22.9% compared to 2018); 436 driving licenses were revoked; 121 vehicles were cut into boxes; 1 bus route with 9 vehicles was suspended; and over 4 billion VND was fined and paid to the State Treasury.
In 2019, the Department of Transport conducted 190 car driving tests and 372 motorbike and scooter tests. Nghe An is currently one of five localities nationwide that directly transmits driving test data to the Vietnam Road Administration for monitoring and ensuring quality and objectivity in the driver training and testing process.

To effectively implement the work of ensuring traffic safety in 2020 with the theme "If you drink alcohol, beer, do not drive", comrade Le Hong Vinh requested all levels and sectors to step up propaganda, dissemination and education of traffic safety laws to all classes of people. In particular, attaching the responsibility of leaders in ensuring traffic safety and reducing traffic accidents in the area.
"Authorities need to coordinate closely, strengthen patrols, control, detect and handle violations of traffic safety, focusing on handling violations that are the main causes of traffic accidents such as: drug-addicted drivers, alcohol violations, violations of load, speed, people on motorbikes and motorbikes not wearing helmets... contributing to reducing traffic accidents on all three criteria," emphasized comrade Le Hong Vinh.

The transport sector needs to improve the effectiveness of state management in the field of training, testing and granting of driving licenses, and tighten management of vehicle registration. At the same time, it is necessary to speed up the progress of key transport projects, strengthen maintenance and repair work, ensure the safety of transport infrastructure; apply information technology to traffic monitoring and management; and prioritize the handling and correction of "black spots" and potential traffic accident spots.
