Scale of Vinh city after completing the merger of Cua Lo town and 6 communes of Nghi Loc district
(Baonghean.vn) - After completing the expansion, Vinh city has a natural area of more than 181km2 (reaching 115.59% of the criteria), a population of about more than 461,600 people (reaching 301.45% of the criteria), and 38 administrative units of communes and wards.
At the conference to give opinions on the draft project to expand the administrative boundaries and urban space of Vinh city, Nghe An province, organized by the Standing Committee of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee on August 9, the provincial leaders finalized the plan to expand Vinh city.
Vinh city today, before expansion, has a natural area of 105km2, population 348,846 people with 25 administrative units, including 16 wards and 9 communes. The urban rate reaches 64% of the criteria.

Accordingly, when expanding administrative boundaries, along with the existing area and population, Vinh city will have the entire administrative boundary of Cua Lo town with a total area of 29.12km2and a population of 57,445 people in 7 wards: Nghi Hai, Nghi Hoa, Nghi Huong, Nghi Tan, Nghi Thu, Nghi Thuy, Thu Thuy; with an area of 47.14km2and a population of 55,310 people in 6 communes of Nghi Loc district including: Nghi Xuan, Phuc Tho, Nghi Thai, Nghi Phong, Nghi Thach and Khanh Hop.
According to information from Nghe An Department of Home Affairs, after completing the expansion, Vinh city will have a natural area of more than 181km2, population of about more than 461,600 people with 38 administrative units of communes and wards.
With the merger of the entire Cua Lo town and 6 communes of Nghi Loc district into Vinh city, upon completion, Nghe An will have 20 district-level administrative units (1 city, 2 towns and 17 districts); compared to 21 district-level administrative units as present (1 city, 3 towns, 17 districts).
In 2021, the production value of Vinh city reached 55,511 billion VND; the average GRDP reached 107.8 million VND/person/year and was 2.37 times higher than the average of the whole province. The poverty rate decreased to 0.53%.
The city completed the National Target Program on New Rural Development in 2016; in 2021, it put into operation the Smart Urban Operation Center (IOC). Vinh City is one of two cities in Vietnam recognized by UNESCO as a "Global Learning City".

In particular, some fields such as: Tourism, science - technology, health, education and training, information technology have formed regional center factors when Vinh city implemented Resolution No. 26 of the Politburo on the direction and tasks of developing Nghe An province until 2020.
In the Notice of Conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the recent working session with leaders of Nghe An province, the head of the Government requested: "Focus on early implementation of the plan to expand the administrative boundaries of Vinh city to have a sustainable and long-term development orientation".
According to recommendations from many experts, expanding administrative boundaries and urban space to become a coastal city will create a boost for Vinh city to develop more comprehensively, becoming a growth pole of the North Central and Central Coast regions.
