Tet is near, Quy Chau red sugar cane is "tired eyes" looking for buyers
(Baonghean.vn) - Chau Binh Commune, Quy Chau District has long been famous for its red sugarcane growing area serving the Tet holiday. However, this year, although there are only more than 2 weeks left until Tet, many sugarcane areas in this area have not yet been booked or purchased by traders.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa's family in Lau 2 village, Chau Binh commune has 4,000m2growing red sugarcane. In previous years, the price of red sugarcane in the garden was from 6,500 - 8,000 VND/tree, her family's sugarcane garden brought in about 70 million VND. However, at this time, it is close to Lunar New Year but there are still no traders asking to buy. There are a few people coming to ask but at low prices.
According to Ms. Hoa, red sugarcane is a picky plant, so when planting, it requires a lot of care. When the plant has grown, the bark must be peeled regularly and the plant must be tied to keep it straight and not fall over. Therefore, with a selling price of 5,000 - 6,000 VND/plant, the grower will not make a profit.

As for Kim Thi Mui's family, because last year the price of sugarcane was stable and brought in quite high profits, this year she converted more than 3,000m2land to grow red sugarcane. According to the estimated selling price as last year, she will have a revenue of over 60 million VND, but now she is worried because the price that traders are asking to buy is quite cheap. If the sugarcane is not sold during Tet, it will have to be left until next year, the purchase price will be even lower, only 4,000 - 5,000 VND/tree.
Red sugarcane is suitable for Chau Binh land, currently in the area there are 10 hectares of red sugarcane; in the first years, the sugarcane plants were tall, large, and long, so many traders ordered them. However, in the past 2 years, the sugarcane plants have short segments, the plants are smaller and lower, so traders have not ordered them because customers often require sugarcane for Tet offerings to be straight and long...
