Thanh Chuong restores traffic and irrigation systems after historic flood
(Baonghean.vn) - Thanh Chuong District (Nghe An) has hundreds of traffic works and irrigation canals seriously damaged after the historic flood in October 2020. Currently, the locality is making efforts to restore the situation to ensure people's lives and production.

Mrs. Phan Thi Loi, a resident of the communeThanh Tungexcitedly: "After the historic flood at the end of last year (2020), we thought that this year's spring rice crop could not be produced because the irrigation canals had been destroyed and washed away by the flood, leaving no water for production. Fortunately, the government, people, and donors joined hands to repair and upgrade this canal system, thanks to which hundreds of hectares of spring rice were harvested in time like today."
Thanh Tung is known to be one of the most severely damaged localities in Thanh Chuong district after the historic flood last year. The entire commune had nearly 10 km of roads eroded, 19 culverts collapsed, 700 m of concrete ditches damaged, many bridges and culverts cracked...

When the flood receded, the locality gradually overcame the situation.damages, in which the most essential items are prioritized for investment first so as not to affect people's lives and production. The remaining items will take advantage of resources to complete later.
Mr. Phan Van Dung - Chairman of Thanh Tung Commune People's Committee said: "After Nghe An Newspaper reported on the local damage after storm No. 9 in 2020, Thanh Chuong district and benefactors, mass organizations, and children working far away joined hands to support the locality to overcome the damage because Thanh Tung is a difficult commune, and local resources cannot meet the demand."

Up to now, Thanh Tung has basically completed repairing the irrigation and traffic systems caused by the historic flood in 2020. The total repair cost is over 4 billion VND.
Not only Thanh Tung but also other localities heavily affected by the recent flood such as Thanh My, Thanh Giang... are also making efforts to repair and overcome damage to infrastructure and irrigation. It is known that in the recent historic flood, the entire Thanh Chuong district had more than 57 km of roads eroded, with a total volume of landslide soil and rock of over 15,000 m3.3; 15 bridges were washed away and damaged; 139 culverts were washed away; nearly 10,000 meters of canals were eroded; 44 low-voltage power poles were broken, 9 pumping stations were flooded and damaged... Estimated damage was 75 billion VND.
