Vinh City deploys tasks for the new school year

Pioneer in quality

Last school year, the city’s education sector was heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and was the locality with the largest number of students having to study online for the longest period in the province. To adapt to the situation, the sector has been proactive and flexible in teaching and learning to promptly respond to the epidemic situation, ensuring both safety and improving the quality of education.

At the end of the school year, the city is still the leading locality in terms of quality with many students winning high prizes in international and regional Olympic competitions, students achieving national and provincial excellent students. The quality of mass education continues to be affirmed, with a high rate of completing the curriculum. In the 10th grade entrance exam, the city's average score was 20.69 points (much higher than the provincial average of 16.32 points).

The whole city has 260/455 students admitted to grade 10 of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, achieving 8/13 valedictorians in specialized subjects, with 249/350 students admitted to grade 10 of Vinh University High School for the Gifted. In the provincial excellent student exam for grade 9, the city had 90 students winning prizes, ranking first in the province.

In addition to the achieved results, the report of the City Department of Education and Training also frankly looked at the shortcomings and limitations but did not effectively resolve the issues that caused public concern such as illegal extra teaching and learning, school selection causing recruitment pressure for schools in central areas. The quality of education, quality and staff structure in some schools are not uniform. The progress of construction and investment in facilities in some localities has not met the requirements, the situation of overloading in terms of student numbers/class, number of classes/school, lack of classrooms and functional rooms in some schools still exists.

Investment in education needs to be equitable.

Speaking at the conference, the Director of the Department of Education and Training acknowledged the efforts and endeavors of the city's education sector, which has successfully completed its tasks and is the leading unit in implementing programs and pilot models. With a pioneering role, the Director of the Department also shared the burden of the city's education when in the process of pilot implementation, there were inevitably difficulties and shortcomings. Currently, in the city, there are 9 schools implementing the model of key schools and high-quality advanced schools and many schools implementing enhanced English programs.

In the coming time, as the central unit, the head of the Department of Education and Training also hopes that the city government will always pay attention to and accompany the city's educational cause. In addition, it is necessary to focus on investing in building and effectively managing facilities. Schools must be concerned with green, clean, beautiful classrooms, building exemplary, joyful, happy schools so that parents trust and students love to go to school.

Emphasizing investment, the Department's leaders also suggested that the city must invest equally among all schools so that "every school has good teachers and good students" to avoid pressure in primary school admissions.

The coming school year is also the first year that the city’s education sector will pilot advanced school models. With the many advantages of this model, the Department also recommends that the city continue to promote it so that parents can understand and support it so that the model can be effectively implemented and achieve its set goals.

The city also needs to continue implementing the quality assurance model in schools. To do so, schools and teachers must regularly contact parents to interact and accompany. The implementation process needs to focus on student output according to the committed criteria.

In the coming time, the city needs to continue to promote socialization, build more STEM classrooms to bring STEM education into schools, pioneering in digital transformation. The city also continues to advise on building a number of specific mechanisms for teachers to encourage the emulation movement of good teaching, good learning, towards global teachers, meeting international standards. The Department will continue to accompany the city to complete the assigned tasks.

At the closing ceremony, the collective of Ha Huy Tap Kindergarten was awarded the 3rd class Labor Medal by the President, and one individual received a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister. The Provincial People's Committee also awarded the Emulation Flag and Certificate of Merit to the Vinh City Department of Education and Training and many collectives for their outstanding achievements during the school year.
