Rice harvest helps isolated communes
(Baonghean.vn) - With the motto "Green at home is better than old in the fields", farmers in low-lying districts in Nghe An have actively gone to the fields to harvest summer-autumn rice, preparing for the rainy and stormy season. Particularly for communes that are implementing social distancing according to Directives 15 and 16 on epidemic prevention such as Son Thanh and Nhan Thanh communes, Yen Thanh district, the district has directed the communes to mobilize forces to proactively harvest rice to help people.

Taking advantage of favorable weather, these days, farmers in low-lying communes of Yen Thanh district have started harvesting.lsummer autumn. Mr. Thai Duy Thinh, a farmer in Hamlet 8, Xuan Thanh Commune, said: My family grows 6 sao of rice in a low-lying area. Currently, the rice is about 85% ripe. We have hired a harvester to harvest and have harvested 4 sao. The summer-autumn season has unpredictable weather, so "it is better to be green at home than in the field" to harvest to avoid the situation of ripe rice being flooded in the fields.
A representative of the People's Committee of Xuan Thanh commune said: The whole commune has over 340 hectares of summer-autumn rice, including over 200 hectares in low-lying areas. Currently, the whole commune has mobilized 12 rice harvesters, harvesting over 100 hectares of rice. It is expected that the summer-autumn rice harvest will be completed in about 2 weeks.
Mr. Le Van Hong - Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural DevelopmentYen Thanhshare: This summer-autumn crop, Yen Thanh district planted nearly 11,000 hectares of rice. Of which, the rice area in low-lying areas, prone to flooding, is over 2,000 hectares, concentrated in Long Thanh, Xuan Thanh, and Vinh Thanh communes. This summer-autumn crop is expected to yield 52 quintals/ha, an increase of 10 quintals compared to the previous crop.
For the low-lying areas, the rice is sown early according to the schedule, so now the rice is 80-85% ripe. To prevent unusual weather developments (storms), the district has directed the low-lying communes to urgently mobilize harvesters and labor to harvest rice to reduce damage.

For communes that are implementing social distancing according to Directives 15 and 16 on epidemic prevention in Son Thanh and Nhan Thanh communes, the district has directed the communes to proactively harvest rice to help people. In particular, rice harvesters are mobilized to communes that are under social distancing, and all harvester owners must have negative PRC test samples before being put into operation. Every day when the rice harvest is completed, an announcement will be made on the loudspeaker for each household to come and receive rice, ensuring social distancing to prevent epidemics according to regulations.
Up to this point, Yen Thanh district has harvested nearly 1,000 hectares, and is expected to complete the harvest of the flood-prone area by September 5.

In the districtDien Chau, farmers are also actively harvesting summer-autumn rice in flooded areas. Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development added that this summer-autumn crop, Dien Chau district planted 8,500 hectares of rice, of which 1,200 hectares are in flooded areas mainly in Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen, Dien Cat communes...
Since August 12, Dien Chau district has harvested about 500 hectares, and by August 30, it will have completed harvesting 1,200 hectares of rice in flooded areas.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection shared more: In the summer-autumn crop, the whole province planted nearly 67,000 hectares of rice, of which more than 20,000 hectares were in flood-prone areas concentrated in the districts of Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Hung Nguyen... The summer-autumn crop often encounters risks of storms and flooding, so the rice areas in flood-prone areas that are 80-85% ripe or more can be directed by the districts to harvest immediately to minimize damage when floods come.
