Promoting gender equality, preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of November 14, in Anh Son district, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Nghe An province coordinated with the People's Committee of Anh Son district to organize the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2022.
Attending the ceremony were representatives of relevant departments and branches and leaders of Anh Son, Tan Ky, Nam Dan, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Thanh Chuong, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son districts.

Speaking at the ceremony, the leader of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that with the efforts in implementing the Law on Gender Equality in the province over the past 15 years, Nghe An province has done well in gender equality work, and achieved remarkable results, thereby contributing to enhancing the position, role and power of women, creating favorable conditions for women to make practical contributions to the sustainable development of family, community and society, gradually reducing inequality between men and women.
After 15 years of implementing the Law on Gender Equality, the proportion of women in the province accounts for more than 50% of the workforce, making an increasingly significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the province; the proportion of female National Assembly deputies reached 30.8%; the proportion of female People's Council deputies at the provincial level reached 27.5%, at the district level reached 29.2%, at the commune level reached 28.1%; 31.33% of women are business owners. The work of hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and job creation has helped millions of families escape poverty and improve their living standards.
However, in addition to the achievements, there are still challenges in the work of preventing and combating gender-based violence. In particular, there are still some cases of violence, abuse, and trafficking of women and children. Some serious cases affect the health, life, honor, and dignity of the victims, causing public outrage.

Therefore, the launch of the Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2022 with the theme "Ensuring social security, empowering women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence" is a communication campaign for gender equality and prevention and response to gender-based violence; attracting attention, promoting the role, responsibility and proactive participation of individuals, families, communities, agencies and organizations in ensuring social security, empowering women and girls to promote gender equality and prevent and respond to violence and abuse against women and children.
