Graduated from University of Technology, returned home to raise bamboo rats to get rich
Graduating from the University of Science and Technology with a high salary, Mr. Chu Van Thai in Kim Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district returned to his hometown to raise bamboo rats (a species that specializes in eating bamboo stems), earning over 250 million VND per year.
Mr. Chu Van Thai in Dong Ban hamlet, Kim Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, born in 1993, graduated from the University of Technology with a major in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of continuing to work with an attractive salary, he decided to return to his hometown to start a career from raising bamboo rats. This decision surprised many people, but Mr. Thai was still determined to pursue his passion and find his own path.
Since 2019, Mr. Thai started raising bamboo rats, which was not easy. He encountered many difficulties from choosing the breed, building the cage, to the care and breeding process. There were times when the bamboo rats continuously got sick and weakened very quickly. However, thanks to the technical knowledge he had learned combined with his diligence and eagerness to learn, he overcame these limitations.

Mr. Thai said: "Dui is an animal that looks similar to a mouse, has the characteristic of gnawing, eating at night and sleeping during the day. Food for dui is very simple, their favorite food is bamboo, reed, sugarcane, every day I have to search and buy bamboo from everywhere then saw it into pieces, split it into small pieces for them to gnaw on. To ensure good growth for dui, they must be fed on time, the cage must always be clean, windproof and without sunlight. They are a cave-dwelling species so the breeding place must have little noise, warm in winter and cool in summer.

From 2019 to now, the scale of Mr. Thai's family's bamboo rat cage has been continuously expanded, from an area of 50m2now expanded to more than 200m2, he arranged 50 breeding pens, divided into areas such as breeding bamboo rats, commercial bamboo rats, breeding bamboo rats... Currently, Mr. Thai has 120 breeding mother bamboo rats, giving birth to 2-3 litters a year, each litter has 3-5 bamboo rats.
The advantage is that bamboo rats are currently popular in the market with high prices, a pair of breeding bamboo rats costs 1-1.2 million VND. When the baby bamboo rats grow up to weigh 1.3 - 1.5 kg, they are sold for meat at 500,000 VND/kg.
By taking advantage of social networks and e-commerce channels, Mr. Thai has reached many customers from specialty restaurants. Every year, Mr. Thai's farm supplies thousands of bamboo rats for breeding and meat, bringing in an income of over 250 million VND/year.

Not only raising bamboo rats to develop the family economy, the 9X guy is also supporting and transferring the bamboo rat raising model to some other households to get rich together. Mr. Thai provides breeds, technical support and output for households.
According to Mr. Thai: the current market for commercial bamboo rats is not enough to meet demand. Bamboo rats are considered a specialty, so they are chosen by many gourmet diners. In the near future, I will expand the scale of raising and supplying commercial bamboo rats to the market to increase income.
Mr. Phan Tat Mau - Chairman of Kim Thanh Commune People's Committee, added: Chu Van Thai's bamboo rat breeding model is very effective, the commune is encouraging households to develop this model to increase people's income. The advantage of Kim Thanh mountainous commune is that it has a large land fund, abundant bamboo, so bamboo rat breeding is quite favorable.

With passion, creativity and the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, Mr. Chu Van Thai has proven that starting a business does not necessarily have to start from flashy professions but can come from simple but potential things. And raising bamboo rats - a seemingly strange profession has become the path to help him get rich and motivate many other young people.

Bamboo rats, also known as bamboo rats, are rodents in the forest, specializing in eating bamboo roots, bamboo shoots or other bamboo plants and some seeds, tubers and fruits. Therefore, people believe that bamboo rat meat is cleaner, safer and more nutritious than poultry and livestock. Ethnic people even believe that bamboo rat meat is good for curing diseases because bamboo rats eat the roots of medicinal plants in the forest. Bamboo rat dishes are now often used in restaurants such as stir-fried bamboo rats, grilled bamboo rats, steamed bamboo rats...
