(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City has decided to stop the plan to charge for rapid testing, and instead will test for free for all citizens residing in the area.

On the morning of August 22, Vinh City People's Committee issued a document to stop implementing Plan 188/KH-UBND dated August 21, to implement a plan for free, large-scale rapid testing.

Accordingly, Vinh City decided to provide free rapid testing to all citizens in the area, including temporary residents. Vinh City requested wards and communes to widely notify the people and agencies and businesses in the area. The wards and communes then synthesize the total number and list of registrants to the City People's Committee before 7:00 p.m. on August 22, 2021 (via email address:[email protected]).

According to Vinh City's explanation, the plan to stop the rapid testing with a fee and switch to free testing after less than a day of issuance is due to the extremely complicated developments of the epidemic. In Vinh City, there are many cases of community infection, the number is increasing. Therefore, the free rapid testing is to ensure that all citizens residing in the area are screened, to detect cases early.

Previously, on the afternoon of August 21, a Plan was issued to deploy large-scale, fee-based Covid-19 testing in Vinh City. This move took place after the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee issued an official dispatch, calling on local units to proactively conduct rapid antigen testing for at-risk subjects.

According to the plan, at least 90,000 people in Vinh City will be tested for antigens. Vinh City requests agencies, units, businesses, and schools located in the area to proactively arrange funds; contract with hospitals and testing centers in the area to implement screening tests for officials, employees, workers, etc. The fee for a rapid test is nearly 100,000 VND.

To date, Vinh City has had 216 cases of Covid-19. Many of these cases were detected in the community in recent days. Currently, the total number of citizens residing in Vinh City is estimated at more than half a million people.
