If cattle are vaccinated and well cared for, they can recover from lumpy skin disease. However, if the lesions become ulcerated, they will fall ill and die in just 5-7 days. Photo: Nguyen Hai |
A representative of the Vinh City Agricultural Service Center said: Because there is no specific vaccine for lumpy skin disease in cattle, after consulting with the Provincial Veterinary Department, the Vinh City Agricultural Service Center is currently instructing people to clean barns with lime powder, use disinfectants to spray to kill flies and mosquitoes that spread the disease; recommending people to vaccinate and take care of their cattle; and at the same time requiring people to sign a commitment to keep them in barns, not to let them roam freely, and to take them out of the area to prevent the spread of the disease.

Mr. Tran Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of Nghi Lien Commune People's Committee, added: Nghi Lien Commune currently has a herd of 650 buffaloes and cows, including 2 3B cow farms with a scale of 20-40 cows, the rest are raised by households, when there is an epidemic, people are quite worried. Currently, epidemic prevention measures are only based on folk experience and if there are no vaccination measures and good care, it is very dangerous for the herd because after just over a week, the cows will become weak and die.

Currently, the commune only has the title of urban civil servant and does not have a full-time officer in veterinary or agriculture, so since the outbreak, the commune has been quite confused. Therefore, along with the request for the Agricultural Service Center to support human resources and prevention plans, the commune also sent a document requesting the city to urgently provide 100 doses of vaccine to vaccinate cattle and buffalo in 6 diseased hamlets and then vaccinate the entire commune./.
