Vinh City: Establishing teams and groups to support essential goods for people in locked-down areas

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga Son - Permanent Deputy Secretary of Ha Huy Tap Ward said: Today is the 4th day that the blocks in the ward have been locked down. The discovery of a Covid-19 infection has caused more than 6,300 people in 8 blocks and Gold 1 apartment building in Ha Huy Tap Ward to be quarantined.isolation.The lockdown news came so suddenly that some households were unable to prepare food and essential supplies. Especially for poor households, families of motorbike taxi drivers, vegetable and fruit sellers at the market... If the lockdown was only for a few days, people could hold out, but a long-term lockdown would be very difficult.

According to Ms. Son, in the blockaded areas, there are 6 poor and near-poor households, not to mention a number of students who are gradually running out of food. To help stabilize the situation and carry out urgent tasks in the blockaded areas, the ward has established a special task force, including local officials and block officials in the blockaded areas to support people when necessary.
"Yesterday, the Steering Committee received a phone call from a student renting a room in grade 11. There were 5 of them in their room. They had been quarantined for 3 days. By this afternoon, they had no food left and their hometown was far away. Their voice was so pitiful. Immediately after that, the Steering Committee quickly deployed support for instant noodles and mineral water for the students, and at the same time directed the policy department to continue to review the disadvantaged households to provide timely support," Ms. Son shared.
Currently, in Ha Huy Tap ward, in addition to the general Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee of the ward, through organizations such as the Women's Union and the Youth Union, practical activities have been organized to ensure a stable life for people in the blockaded area.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen - Secretary of the Youth Union of Ha Huy Tap Ward said: Immediately after the blockade order for the blocks, the Youth Union mobilized 20 young people to establish the "Green Shirt Shipper Team", whose task is to support and help people in the blockade area to buy food and provisions. Notably, in Block 8, 1 of the 4 blocks that were completely blockaded (Blocks 8, 9, 10, 11), there were 3 near-poor households and 2 children from difficult families who were supported by the Hong Son Ward Youth Union with lunch and dinner for these 5 families for 14 days.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Hue - President of the Women's Union of Ha Huy Tap Ward added: In the past few days, the association has also received support from many organizations and individuals, some of whom directly came to support the guard posts, some of whom gave gifts through the Steering Committee, all support at this time is very valuable. Recently, Thien Duyen Club also donated 60kg of rice through the Steering Committee, the ward will initially support 6 poor households.
Ms. Hue also said that currently, the Women's Union of the ward has also connected with the Women's Unions in Nghi An, Nghi Lien, and Hung Dong communes to support green vegetables for people in the blockaded areas.
In Hung Dung ward, after 1 day of blockade, in addition to performing tasks at the guard post, the local government has also started to focus on stabilizing life and ensuring necessary necessities for people in the blockade area.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh - Chairman of Hung Dung Ward People's Committee said that since yesterday (June 16), after stabilizing the control work at the checkpoints, the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has completed the task of taking rapid test samples for more than 1,800 people of 410 households in the area where Covid-19 patients live.

In addition, through a quick review, in the blockade area in Hung Dung ward, there are 10 poor and near-poor households, single people and more than 30 students staying in rented accommodation who are currently unable to leave the blockade area, while food and provisions are not prepared in time.
Currently, the Steering Committee has received support from individuals and organizations inside and outside the ward to help with meals and drinking water for checkpoints. In addition, many organizations and units have also contacted to propose plans to support rice and essential foods for households. Through the channel of the Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, after receiving support, the ward will distribute to households and student dormitories in the most timely manner.
According to Mr. Khanh, currently in the ward, essential goods trading activities are still operating. Before the epidemic broke out, the ward also propagated to business households to stabilize the situation, not to arbitrarily raise prices and this has also been strictly followed by households, many households even enthusiastically supported to send to households in the blockade area.
