Artificial intelligence (AI) has been attracting public attention recently. Grasping social needs, in 2023, many higher education institutions will open new majors related to digital technology.

Along with that, language and health care majors are also chosen by many schools and reduce quotas in traditional training majors.

According to information announced by higher education institutions, in 2023 many units will open new majors and increase enrollment targets. The majors chosen by many schools to open new majors are mainly in the fields of economics, technology, languages, etc.

Mr. Tran Khac Thac - Deputy Head of Training Department, Thuyloi University said: "In addition to the majors that have been enrolled in 2022, the school plans toAdmissionand additional training in Economic Law and Chinese Language. If possible, the school can open more Korean and Japanese Language majors this year. For newly opened majors, the school will only recruit from 50 to 60 students for each major.

Among the new majors, schools prioritize majors related to artificial intelligence and digital technology such as: Robotics and artificial intelligence, Digital economy, Digital marketing, Financial technology; Technology marketing; Digital business; Logistics technology... Explaining the opening of new majors, representatives of higher education institutions said that these majors are new and suitable for the current context, which is that digital technology is developing strongly and the need for high-quality human resources in these majors is becoming increasingly urgent.

Mr. Tran Manh Ha - Head of Training Department, Banking Academy said that this year the school introduced 4 new training programs: Digital Banking, Financial Technology, Logistics and Supply Chain Management and Tourism Management.

"Before being approved, the school carefully researched the needs of the labor market and the needs of recruiting units in the coming years for high-quality human resources and found that the above 4 training programs received special attention from the recruitment market. There are two majors that emphasize the digital transformation of the banking industry, which is also one of the key areas of the industry as well as the Government. That is the training program on Digital Banking and Financial Technology, which is interdisciplinary training, meaning that it is not traditionally related to a specific industry, but will be interdisciplinary between the Banking industry, the Finance industry and information technology", said Mr. Ha.

According to experts, the trend of universities opening many new majors is considered an understandable one, aiming to meet the demand for human resources as the country increasingly integrates and moves towards the 4.0 industrial revolution; At the same time, it helps schools attract students to recruit better. The trend of investing in opening new majors also proves that schools are shifting from training what they have to training what the market needs. Therefore, traditional training majors, or majors that are not chosen by many candidates, are also gradually reducing enrollment quotas by schools.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Khoat - Head of Training Department, University of Mining and Geology said that in recent years, some traditional majors in the Mining sector of the school have fallen into a state of difficulty in recruiting, each course can only recruit 1 class due to the lack of candidates registering, the admission score is also low: "In fact, when businesses come to order from the school in traditional professions, the demand is there. However, due to social media, students may not grasp it, or are still passionate about the trend, so they still register for some hot majors, but in essence, traditional professions still have high demand from society. However, the high demand from society, if analyzed, falls mainly on state-owned enterprises, salaries paid according to low basic salaries. Therefore, students still focus on hot majors, with high salary potential, which is a shortcoming of general enrollment in Vietnam at present".

According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on opening new training majors are very strict, in which, opening majors must meet the conditions of facilities, teaching staff, curriculum... according to the requirements of each different group of occupations. The registered training major must be suitable to the needs of society and learners, with the requirements of human resources for socio-economic development and suitable to the functions and tasks of the school. Therefore, the choice of majors by candidates must be based on many factors.

When a new training industry is opened, schools have already researched the needs of that industry. Choosing a newly opened training industry or a training industry that has been opened for years is not the deciding factor, but we need to have a deep understanding, have an orientation based on our strengths, interests and sometimes even family conditions. Therefore, research on forecasting trends is very important, but at the same time, as I have affirmed, when you have chosen a profession, the most important thing is whether we can study well in that field or not.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training

The Ministry of Education and Training's 2022 enrollment summary report shows that the four groups of majors with the most successful candidates are: Computer and Information Technology, Business and Management, Engineering Technology, and Humanities. Many experts believe that in reality, candidates' choices of these majors will not change in this year's enrollment season. However, the fact that schools open more majors causes the system of majors to overlap; many new majors are actually based on old majors or in the same field, but each school names them differently to attract candidates. This affects and causes difficulties in career counseling and guidance for students./.
