Vinh City General Hospital successfully performed surgery on a patient with an ovarian cyst weighing nearly 6kg.
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in collaboration with the Department of General Surgery successfully performed surgery on a large ovarian cyst weighing nearly 6 kg for patient Nguyen Thi T (66 years old, Vinh City).
A few years ago, Ms. Nguyen Thi T. went to the doctor and discovered an ovarian cyst. After many follow-up examinations, the cyst did not increase in size and she herself did not feel anything unusual, so she subjectively did not go to the doctor and get treatment.
Recently, Ms. T. noticed that her abdomen was getting bigger, but due to the complicated Covid-19 epidemic situation, she still hesitated to go for a check-up. For the past two months, Ms. T. has felt her abdomen getting bigger quickly, accompanied by a feeling of abdominal pain and tension that was very uncomfortable, so she went to Vinh City General Hospital - Nghe An. Through clinical and paraclinical examinations, the doctors said that she had a large ovarian tumor that occupied almost the entire abdomen, equivalent to a uterus with an 8-9 month pregnancy, so she had to be hospitalized and had surgery indicated. Because the tumor was large, its size increased rapidly, and the ovarian cancer marker increased; MRI scans showed that the tumor was solid, had buds, and had contrast, so it could not be ruled out that this was an ovarian tumor with the potential to be malignant.

In women, ovarian cysts are common tumors and can occur at any age from the fetal period to menopause. The tumor is often asymptomatic and develops silently, but can cause some complications such as: rupture, torsion, infertility... especially can lead to ovarian cancer. Cancer cells can metastasize to neighboring organs and many other parts of the body, endangering the patient's life.
Therefore, people should have regular health check-ups at least once every 6 months or immediately when they have symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, feeling an abnormal mass in the abdomen, etc.; do not wait too long as it will cause many difficulties in treatment and seriously affect your health./.
