(Baonghean.vn) - After the flood receded, the authorities and people of wards and communes in Hoang Mai town and Yen Thanh district started cleaning up facilities and sanitation after the flood.

According to initial statistics, this flood caused more than 40m of Tran Trich dike and more than 5m of Vuc Mau main canal, block 15, Mai Hung ward to collapse and break; 359m of surrounding wall in Quynh Xuan, Mai Hung, Quynh Phuong wards and Quynh Vinh commune collapsed. There was 1 landslide on National Highway 48D, 1 bridge in Quynh Vinh commune collapsed and 119m of road in Quynh Phuong ward collapsed; 5 houses were eroded and collapsed.

In addition, 19.4 hectares of rice were flooded; more than 479 hectares of vegetables were damaged; 461.5 hectares of aquaculture ponds were flooded and overflowed, and more than 3,000 chickens and ducks died.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Binh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Thien Ward, where 300 households were flooded, of which more than 100 households had to be evacuated, said: Currently, in the ward, some low-lying areas are still flooded. In areas where the water has been drained, the local government mobilized all forces to directly support and help people overcome the consequences. The ward also assigned medical forces to organize the disinfection of water sources for temporary use by people and to clean up their houses after the flood.

After the water receded, officers and soldiers of the armed forces and militia in Hoang Mai town spread out to flooded schools in the area to help clean up and sanitize the environment in time to welcome students back next week.

Due to the school's large area and wide space, after the flood receded, a large amount of mud was left behind. Therefore, today, after the flood receded, the Military Command of Hoang Mai town coordinated with officers and soldiers of Battalion 41, Brigade 134, Information and Communications Corps working in the area, along with militia platoons in wards and communes to quickly assist the schools in cleaning and sanitizing.

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Xuan Tien - Deputy Political Commissar and Chief of Politics, Hoang Mai Town Military Command said: As soon as the flood water rose, the unit mobilized forces along with militia platoons to stay in deeply flooded areas to evacuate people and their property to safety. After the water receded, the unit continued to support people in cleaning up and overcoming the consequences of the flood. Currently, the unit's viewpoint is to clean up as the water recedes, especially supporting agencies and units such as medical centers and schools to clean up promptly to resume stable operations.

In the recent flood, 8/10 wards and communes in Hoang Mai town were severely flooded, including 7 schools in 3 wards and communes: Quynh Thien, Quynh Vinh, Quynh Di. Not to mention some schools in Mai Hung ward were also partially flooded.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Loc - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoang Mai town said: During the recent flood, in areas that were not flooded, students still went to school as usual, but in areas that were heavily flooded, especially areas with flooded schools, the department also directed schools to proactively notify students to stay home from school. Currently, when the water recedes, schools are taking advantage of the weekend to clean up and check equipment. It is expected that all students will return to school next Monday.

In the 2022-2023 school year, Hoang Mai town has 42 schools with more than 1,380 administrators, teachers and staff. According to Mr. Loc, for schools that had to close during the recent flood, the department will direct schools to arrange for students to make up for lost time at an appropriate time, so as not to affect the quality of education.

Mr. Nguyen Huu An - Chairman of Hoang Mai Town People's Committee said that after the water receded, the town directed localities to rent excavators, mobilize people to collect duckweed, clear the flow, clean up, and trim fallen trees. Localities with landslides and embankments must temporarily reinforce them. At Quynh Phuong B Primary School, 2 classrooms had their roofs blown off and must be quickly repaired to ensure the safety of students going to school. In addition, measures must be implemented to restore agricultural production, business, and services after the flood so that people can soon stabilize their lives.
