On the evening of June 19, as soon as the entire Vinh city was socially isolated according to Directive 16 of the Prime Minister, the Department of Transport coordinated with businesses to hand over 5 buses to the Vinh City People's Committee to place at checkpoints to help the functional forces reduce some of the hardship when performing their duties in harsh weather. Mr. Nguyen Song Toan - Deputy Secretary of the Trung Do Ward Youth Union shared: As for us, the Youth Union members only support the logistics work for the checkpoints during the day, while the officers on duty have to be on duty 24/7 in this very difficult weather. With buses, we can use them as a place to rest when needed, rain or shine. Photo: Tien Dong |

However, in reality, with heavy traffic and a small force, officers and soldiers always have to be on duty on the road, so buses are a means of transportation reserved for when it rains heavily, or late at night, when there are no more people or vehicles passing by, the checkpoints will arrange for people to take turns taking a nap. At the checkpoint at the beginning of Pham Hong Thai Street in Vinh Tan Ward, intersecting with Vinh bypass, this is a checkpoint with a large volume of vehicles and goods passing through, so the forces on duty at the checkpoint have to work hard under the hot sun. Although the bus has air conditioning, no one has time to rest. With water tanks on the bus, when they are very thirsty, the officers and soldiers only have time to get on and drink a quick sip of water before getting back on duty. Photo: Tien Dong |

Lieutenant Tran Dinh Tuan - Traffic Police Team, Vinh City Police shared that a few days ago, when there was a Covid-19 case in Ha Huy Tap ward, he and his teammates were mobilized to work at the blockade checkpoint. After implementing social isolation across the city, they were transferred to this checkpoint. Due to the nature of the gateway to the city, goods from Vinh market are transported through this road to be loaded onto trucks waiting at Vinh bypass, so there is almost no rest time, the bus is on the side of the road, has air conditioning but there is no time to rest. In addition to buses, some businesses have also supported the checkpoints with some improved containers as offices, with air conditioning inside to help the checkpoint staff rest and ensure their health while performing their duties. However, according to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Son - Traffic Police Team, Vinh City Police, the staff can only rest a little at midnight, when there are no more people or vehicles passing by, and they have to stay at the checkpoints, straining themselves in the hot sun to perform their duties. Currently, according to Mr. Le Sy Chien - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee, there have been 5 buses and 8 containers supported by businesses for epidemic checkpoints. Each improved container has an area of about 10m2, has air conditioning inside and can hold a folding bed, and some essential items. This is truly a very timely sentiment and sharing of businesses and people for the whole city at a time when we are struggling to fight the epidemic like now. Photo: Tien Dong |
