Nearly 2,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice in Yen Thanh are infected with white-backed planthoppers.
(Baonghean.vn) - According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thanh district, the entire district currently has nearly 2,000 hectares of newly planted summer-autumn rice that have been damaged by white-backed planthoppers.
Up to now, although the whole Yen Thanh district has only planted more than 8,000/12,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice as planned. However, according to statistics, the rice area infected with planthoppers in the whole district is nearly 2,000 hectares, mainly concentrated in the communes: Nhan Thanh, Phu Thanh, Hong Thanh, Tho Thanh, Hop Thanh... with a common planthopper density of 20 - 30 individuals/m2, some places are 50-100 individuals/m2.

Yen Thanh district has directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the district's Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Station to coordinate with the Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Sub-Department to collect and test over 150 planthopper samples, of which one planthopper sample was found positive for the Southern black-striped dwarf virus in Phu Thanh commune; posing a potential risk of widespread outbreak of black-striped dwarf disease.
According to forecasts, the second crop of planthoppers in this summer-autumn crop will bloom between June 13 and 17; they have a high rate of carrying the virus.
To proactively prevent and control white-backed planthoppers and Southern black-striped dwarf disease from spreading and causing damage on a large scale, Yen Thanh district has directed communes to organize propaganda, guide and direct farmers to strictly implement prevention measures.
