According to Dien Chau Plant Cultivation and Plant Protection Station, currently summer-autumn rice is in the waxy ripening stage (about to be harvested) but 454 hectares are infected with brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers, of which 247.5 hectares have a high density of 10-15 thousand insects/m2;9 hectares of rice were burned by planthoppers, completely lost.
The rice areas infected with planthoppers are mainly in the communes of Dien Nguyen, Dien Thai, Dien Binh, Dien Minh, Dien Phuc, Dien Phu, Dien Quang... It is forecasted that in the coming time, the weather will continue to be unpredictable, alternating sunshine and rain, creating conditions for brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers to increase in both scope and level of damage, especially in varieties susceptible to planthoppers such as TBR225, Bac Thom, BC 15, Nep,... Many areas with high planthopper density will cause rice to burn if not sprayed promptly.
