Hundreds of households in Con Cuong raise Quy ducks.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Quy duck farming model has existed in Con Cuong district for a long time, but in recent years, with the propaganda and support of authorities at all levels, new farming models have been replicated in the area, on a larger scale.
Mr. Ha Van Nhiem's family in Hua Na village, Luc Da commune, takes advantage of the free time and available raw materials to raise 3 batches of Quy ducks each year, each batch has 60 ducks. The family mainly raises commercial ducks and collects eggs to sell to the market. Each duck weighs from 2.5 - 3 kg and sells for about 80,000 VND/kg.
In addition, the family also harvested over 3,000 duck eggs, selling for 3,000 VND/egg, bringing in an income of over 30 million VND/year for the family. Mr. Nhiem shared: “My family has raised ducks for many years and regularly maintains the model. Duck food is readily available such as corn, bran, rice... so raising them is easy and costs little.”

Hua Na village, Luc Da commune has over 100 households raising Quy ducks with a scale of 10 - 150 ducks. Being a purely agricultural village, mainly producing corn and rice, but with a large system of ponds, lakes, and irrigation canals, people have the conditions to develop an additional profession of raising ducks.
Thanks to its brand and long-standing breeding tradition, the output of Quy ducks is always stable and has a high price. Ducks are considered a breeding animal that helps Hua Na villagers effectively eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. Mr. Lo Van Tuat - Head of Hua Na village, Luc Da commune (Con Cuong) said: "Our Hua Na village has a long tradition of raising Quy ducks. Currently, more than 50% of households in the village raise ducks, bringing in income to help the village reduce the number of poor households, and the economy is increasingly improving."
In 2019, Nam Son village, Mon Son commune reached the new rural finish line. In order to support the village to continue building new models for higher income, in April 2020, Mon Son commune People's Committee supported nearly 4,000 ducklings for 10 households. After more than 2 months of care, the ducks have grown well, with a high survival rate, currently weighing about 2 kg/duck.Mr. Ha Van Anh in Nam Son village, Mon Son commune (Con Cuong) shared: "My family is very excited to receive 200 ducks from the State to raise. The family also takes advantage of available agricultural products, so the duck flock grows quickly. The family plans to raise ducks to lay eggs, hatch the ducks to sell to the market."

Currently, in Con Cuong district, there are hundreds of households raising Quy ducks in the communes of Mon Son, Luc Da, Don Phuc, Binh Chuan... Compared to other livestock and poultry, Quy ducks are easy to raise, suitable for natural conditions with many ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and have few diseases, so Con Cuong district encourages and supports people to expand the model and increase the total herd size.
Mr. Lo Van Ly - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Con Cuong district said: “Raising Quy ducks has been around for a long time, but in 2019, due to African swine fever, the price of live pigs was high and pork was scarce, so people promoted raising Quy ducks. The district also supported communes to allocate resources to build new rural models to buy duck breeds for people, building the brand of Quy Con Cuong ducks. At the same time, we propagated to people to develop poultry farming, prevent and control epidemics, and expand the scale of raising Quy ducks in Binh Chuan and Don Phuc communes”.
