The important role of the Association of the Elderly

Pursuant to Decree No. 45/2010 of the Government on piloting the establishment of Elderly Associations at all levels in the province, on September 9, 2011, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Decision on allowing the establishment of the Provincial Elderly Association.

Currently, the Provincial Association of the Elderly has been fully organized at 4 levels, having gone through 3 congresses. The 3rd Provincial Association of the Elderly, term 2022-2027, elected an Executive Committee of 29 members, an Inspection Committee of 5 members, continuing to bring the Association's activities to meet the requirements of the new period.

Currently, Nghe An has 21 district-level Elderly Associations, 460 grassroots associations, and 3,871 branches. After more than 10 years of pilot implementation, it has been shown that the model of organizing the Elderly Association is very suitable for the development requirements and the current political and social system of our country. All activities of the Association are deployed uniformly and synchronously at 4 levels, from the province to the branch.

Since the establishment of the Association, the effectiveness and quality of its activities have been improved, creating favorable conditions for the Association's staff to carry out the Association's key tasks and movements. On the other hand, it is affirmed that the consolidation of the Council's organizational model, unification, and organization of the 4-level Elderly Association is appropriate and very necessary. The Association's legal status is clearer, and the advisory role of the Association for local Party committees and authorities on elderly affairs is more proactive and effective.

Since its establishment, the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly has been implemented and achieved many practical results. Environmental protection programs, bright eyes for the elderly, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas have been effective and have spread throughout society, and have been highly appreciated by the Party Committee, government and people. The Association of the Elderly is truly a strong organization, gathering and uniting a wide range of elderly people with the motto "living happily, living healthily, living usefully for family and society".

Unifying the model for the Association to operate more effectively

Speaking at the meeting, comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee affirmed that in recent times, Nghe An province has paid great attention to and created favorable conditions for the Elderly Association at all levels to operate.

It is evident that up to now, the Association's organizational system has developed rapidly and widely; attracted and gathered many members to participate; organized many activities regularly, relatively orderly, and effectively. The Association's members have demonstrated their role and image, as well as made positive contributions to local movements quite clearly. The Association has also actively participated in educational work, setting an example for future generations to follow.

The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee said that in the coming time, it is necessary to raise awareness of the role, position and importance of the Association of the Elderly. From there, promote actions in leadership, direction, care and comprehensive support of Party committees and authorities at all levels so that the Association of the Elderly can operate more effectively. Because the number of elderly people is increasing, it requires the role of the Association, care and leadership to be increasingly higher, in the spirit of substance, effectiveness, saying goes hand in hand with doing.

In the coming time, the province will direct departments, branches and sectors to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Association of the Elderly to operate. On the other hand, the Association of the Elderly also needs to promote socialization, develop more strongly, and organize activities well to increasingly clarify the image of the Association at the grassroots level.

Comrade Nguyen Van Thong also discussed the contents that the survey team was interested in and said that in the coming time, it is necessary to unify the operating model of the Elderly Association nationwide, thereby making the Elderly Association operate more effectively and contribute more to society.

Concluding the working session, comrade Trieu Tai Vinh - Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization acknowledged the dedicated, responsible and frank opinions of the provincial leaders, departments, branches and localities.

The Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization also highly appreciated the leadership, direction and attention of Nghe An province to the activities of the Association of the Elderly over the past time. The advisory and implementation work of the Association of the Elderly at all levels in Nghe An has achieved many positive and clear results.

Based on the opinions of Nghe An province, the delegation will fully synthesize and report to the Secretariat for consideration and direction to soon complete the Conclusion on the implementation of the pilot model of the Elderly Association nationwide./.
