9th grade male student determined to 'isolate' his phone, become valedictorian of excellent students in the province
(Baonghean.vn) - Nguyen Viet Nguyen is the first student of Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School (Nam Dan) to be the valedictorian of the Provincial Excellent Student Competition in Chemistry. He is also one of the candidates with the highest score in the 2023 Provincial Excellent Student Competition with an astonishing score of 19.13 points.
Be proactive in choosing subjects
Nguyen Viet Nguyen is currently a 9th grade student at Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School - the school with the best results in Nam Dan. With a high entrance fee, all students are good students, so Nguyen did not surprise his teachers when he studied all subjects. Even in 7th grade, Nguyen was chosen by the school's teachers to compete in the excellent student competition in all 3 subjects: Math, English and Literature. Surprisingly, the male student specialized in natural science subjects but won the Encouragement Prize for excellent student Literature of the district.

Because he knew that he was not good at Literature and did not like it too much, and that winning the Encouragement Prize was sometimes a matter of luck. Meanwhile, with the remaining subjects, the opportunity to join the team was not much because in the class and in the school there were many excellent students.

In the midst of doubting himself, Nguyen's brother, who was studying at Nam Dan 1 High School at that time, advised Nguyen to try learning about Chemistry. So, although Nguyen had just officially started studying Chemistry at school when he was in 8th grade, since the summer of July, he "packed up" and asked to study with a teacher at school in the form of online learning. In the early days of getting acquainted with this subject, Nguyen had two reasons: "first, to fill the empty time while having to social distance and quarantine at home, second, to learn difficult lessons in advance, so that he would not be surprised when he entered the class later". However, the more Nguyen learned about this subject, the more he liked and became passionate about it. Especially, after the lessons, he searched online, watched experiments related to the lesson and he was really interested in this highly applicable subject.
Later, in 8th grade, Chemistry became an official subject and my passion was "ignited" and nurtured by teacher Dinh Xuan Hoa. Nguyen remembers, one of the first lessons that the students loved the most was the lesson on chemical phenomena. When it came to the experiment, the teacher let the students use crystals to make shapes such as stars, hearts, and animals, which made them very excited.

Nguyen's passion for Chemistry is also the desire to conquer difficult exercises, the more difficult they are, the more absorbed he is in finding solutions and forgetting to eat and sleep because of this subject. Recognizing the student's qualities, the teacher confidently selected Nguyen to be on the Chemistry team to participate in the school and district exams, and each time Nguyen was one of the students with the best results. In the last two exams to select the team to compete in the provincial exam, Nguyen was the valedictorian of the district.
Willing to give up personal preferences
With many outstanding achievements, Nguyen Viet Nguyen is always a student who receives the trust of his teachers as well as the school. As for Nguyen, he does not see it that way because he knows that, compared to many other friends, Nguyen has not really tried his best.
Talking about this, Nguyen said: My mother has been working far away for 6 years, my father works all day so most of the time at home there are only 2 brothers. When I was in 9th grade, my brother went to university so I was mostly home alone and my best friend was my phone. Like many other students, I use my phone a lot to play games, chat with friends, and go on social networks which takes a lot of time.

Nguyen's father works in the military so he is quite strict. Not wanting his son to study too hard, at 11pm every night, Nguyen receives a "curfew" order and has to go to bed. Because he doesn't have much time, he calculates the time, from sitting at the desk, spending time surfing the internet and then officially studying, Nguyen sees that he hasn't focused much on studying. To "shake" himself up, Nguyen is determined to "quit" his phone; once he sits at the desk, he turns off all notifications, doesn't turn on wifi, doesn't chat, doesn't talk to friends. Sometimes, to completely cut off the phone, Nguyen puts it in his father's private room so he doesn't have a chance to use it.
With his efforts, determination and intelligence, Nguyen confidently entered the provincial exam for excellent students in grade 9 and after 150 minutes of taking the test, he was quite satisfied with his test. What he regretted most was that he did not do well on a fairly easy experimental question, even though it was within his ability.

With a score of 19.13 points, Nguyen excellently won first prize in the Chemistry Excellent Student Competition this school year and this is also the highest result of this year's exam. Sharing about the title of valedictorian, Nguyen added: I was quite surprised because I was one of the 4 candidates with the highest score. I thought that I had a good exam but being valedictorian was something I had not thought about because there were many excellent students in Chemistry.
The "fire-keeping" of teachers
This year, the Chemistry team of Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School has 6 contestants participating in the Provincial Excellent Student Competition for Grade 9 in the 2022-2023 school year. In addition to Nguyen Viet Nguyen's valedictorian title, 4 other students also achieved high prizes, including 2 Second Prizes, 1 Third Prize and 1 Encouragement Prize. This is not only the school's highest result in many years of participating in the Provincial Excellent Student Competition, but also helps the school's Chemistry team enter the top 3 schools with the highest achievements in this year's competition.
As one of the two teachers directly involved in the training, teacher Dinh Xuan Hoa shared that “Chemistry is a difficult subject and not all students like it. However, I am lucky that every year many students register and pursue this subject with me, and that is one of the reasons that helps me in the task of training excellent students”.

Previously, the school’s Chemistry team had many years of students winning first prize. To create resources, Mr. Hoa and other teachers all believe that, in addition to dedication and responsibility for the profession, it is necessary to have teaching methods suitable for all students and especially not to put pressure on students.
Another simple secret is to teach thoroughly, helping students grasp the knowledge in textbooks and after each lesson know how to apply it in life. To approach competitions for excellent students, teachers also constantly learn, improve their expertise, build rich sources of questions so that students have many opportunities to rub shoulders and challenge themselves...
Talking about the school's success, teacher Nguyen Vuong Linh - Principal of Dang Chanh Ky Secondary School also said: The achievements of Nguyen Viet Nguyen and the excellent student teams are the pride of the school. That will give more motivation for teachers and students of the school to try together and achieve more results in the upcoming exams.
