(Baonghean.vn) - At the 2022 Hanoi National University's competency assessment exam with the participation of more than 60,000 candidates nationwide, Ngo Duc Tai - a student of Do Luong 3 High School scored 120 points. With this extremely high score, Tai also has the opportunity to be admitted to many top universities.

Outstanding achievements

At Do Luong 3 High School, Ngo Duc Tai is a famous student because he was an excellent student in all three years of school. In grade 10, Tai participated in the provincial Science and Technology Innovation Competition and won third prize with a project in the field of system software, with the topic of using PHP language to design an online test website for high school students.

Tai shared: "The project was implemented in a relatively short time when the Covid-19 pandemic was complicated and we had to switch from in-person to online learning. When implementing this project, I was very happy because it could be applied in practice and in fact we have applied it at school."

Besides information technology, my interest in exploring and learning knowledge is expressed in competency assessment exams, seeing it as an opportunity to demonstrate my abilities, and at the same time as a basis for me to "open the door" to university.

Among them, the competency assessment exam organized by Hanoi National University is the exam that Tai participated in the most with 3 times. With a high level of difficulty, requiring comprehensive knowledge of many subjects, but it is admirable that Tai achieved very high scores in all 3 exams: 114, 116 and 120 points.

Recently, summarizing 10 competency assessment exams in 2022, Hanoi National University announced the score distribution. Accordingly, after 10 consecutive exams from February 26 to June 26, 2022, only 1 candidate had the highest score of 135/150 and 16 candidates scored between 125-131. Of the more than 60,000 exam papers, only 1.6% had a score equal to or higher than 110. With a score of 120 points, Tai modestly said "I am only in the top 50" but in fact, Tai's position is much higher.

An aptitude test is a comprehensive test (subject) that typically includes questions to test language proficiency; mathematics, logical thinking and data analysis; and problem solving.

The purpose of participating in this exam is to consider university admission, evaluate the capacity of high school students according to the output standards of the new general education program; Provide career orientation for learners based on knowledge and personal capacity; Test knowledge of nature, society, thinking, skills, attitudes of learners...

The results of the aptitude test are one of the methods of admission to universities.

Self-study secrets

Talking about this exam, Tai added: The exam of Hanoi National University aims to assess the capacity of high school students in 3 main groups: Creativity and problem solving; Math, Vietnamese, language thinking, reasoning, logic, calculation and data processing; and self-study, discovery and application of technology/science (natural - social).

Accordingly, the test structure consists of 3 parts: Qualitative thinking (50 questions, 60 minutes), Quantitative thinking (50 questions, 75 minutes), Science (50 questions, 60 minutes).

In the exam, I did quite well with questions related to the knowledge of the three subjects Math, Physics, and Chemistry, with an accuracy of over 90%. The exam in the field of social sciences is not my strength, but thanks to careful review and reading many reference books, I am confident of getting over 80%. Although this is not the highest result, I am quite satisfied because the exam result is due to my efforts and hard work.

The Aptitude Test is also a new test and has only been implemented in the last few years. However, there are currently over 50 top universities using this result and it will be a main admission method in the coming school years.

The current difficulty for candidates, especially those in the provinces, is that reviewing and accessing this set of exam questions is still limited. Meanwhile, although there are instructions, the organization of teaching and learning in schools to help students access this form of exam is still inadequate.

In fact, in recent years, the number of students in the province registering for this exam has increased, but most of them self-study, search for documents and take the exam on their own.

A competency assessment test of Hanoi National University includes a synthesis of knowledge of 7 subjects: Mathematics, Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Biology. History, Geography and this is really a difficult problem for candidates who usually only review 3 subjects for university entrance exams. Personally, when approaching this test, I was not too worried about Math, Physics, Chemistry, because these are my main subjects. For the remaining subjects, arranging study time for 12th grade students is very difficult because there are too many subjects, a huge amount of knowledge. When approaching the competency assessment test, I went online to download sample questions and looked at the structure of the test.

Through analysis, I found that although the number of questions was very large, up to 150, the knowledge was mainly in the textbook and some questions were practical, so I first studied the lessons in class carefully. In the remaining time, I bought sets of questions for the subjects Literature, History, Geography, Biology to review for the exam like university review, and once I had mastered the knowledge, this exam was no longer too difficult.

Ngo Duc Tai shared

To do well on the competency assessment test, Tai also believes that candidates must be “alert” when doing the test because there are many trick questions or questions with practical applications. Social questions do not require memorization or flowery language, but try to read and understand. The questions are not too in-depth, so when doing the test, candidates must know how to apply their thinking and require speed to make the most of the test time.

With 120 points, Tai was quite confident when registering for NV1 in the Faculty of Foreign Economics and NV2 in the Faculty of Information Technology - Hanoi National University. However, this male student was not satisfied with his achievements despite holding the valedictorian position of Do Luong 3 High School in 3 consecutive mock exams.

Teacher Vuong Tran Le - Principal of Do Luong 3 High School commented: Ngo Duc Tai is a determined student, has a high sense of self-study and is a typical example of the school. We believe that the results Tai has achieved will add motivation and confidence to students in remote areas and have more students with high results in competency assessment exams.
