As reported, on the afternoon of June 16, a thunderstorm occurred in Thanh Lien commune, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Due to not being able to escape the rain in time, a group of people herding buffaloes in the fields ran into a temporary tent in a cornfield in Lien Duc hamlet to take shelter from the rain.
During the storm, lightning struck hard, uprooting the corn field right next to the makeshift tent, causing 12 people, including 3 adults and 9 children from Lien Bang and Lien Duc hamlets, who were taking shelter in the tent, to faint and injure.

Phan Thi Huyen (15 years old) in Lien Duc hamlet was the most seriously injured, with burns to her face and loss of vision. She was transferred to Thanh Chuong District General Hospital for treatment.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (53 years old) in Lien Bang hamlet, the oldest victim of the lightning strike, is still in a state of shock: "Luckily the lightning struck nearby, otherwise if it had struck the middle of the tent, no one would have survived."
As of the afternoon of June 17, the health of most of the victims has stabilized, many of them are walking and working normally. Phan Thi Huyen is continuing to receive treatment at the district hospital.
