Mr. Pham Van Oanh, one of the households with the largest corn acreage in Hung Nguyen district, sighed: "I rented 40 hectares of land in Xuan Lam commune to grow biomass corn, the total cost of seeds, care... is estimated at 600 million VND. Just a short time before harvest, rain and strong winds came down, more than 50% of the corn acreage collapsed, beyond saving, now I don't know how to manage because all my capital has been invested in this crop...".

Not only Mr. Oanh but also hundreds of corn-growing households in Hung Nguyen district are feeling the same way at this time. According to observations, thousands of corn plants at their peak growth stage were broken in half, lying flat, and young corn cobs were also scattered all over the fields.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, communeChau Nhan(Hung Nguyen) said: "Most of this corn crop has been contracted with dairy farming enterprises to buy, however, they only buy when we take good care of it and it's time to harvest. If the whole field collapses in the middle of the crop like this, we can't force them to buy because the contract doesn't have a clause to buy fallen corn, we have to take responsibility for it ourselves."

It is known that in recent days, due to the large area of broken corn, many "impatient" households have researched and contacted companies.farmRaising livestock to hope that these units will buy them to make food for people, but the number of purchasing units is not much.

Some establishments agree to purchase the plants, but they require people to cut down the trees themselves and transport them to the designated gathering place. They will not go to the fields to buy them. However, according to people's calculations, the cost of renting machines, harvesting workers, and transporting vehicles is too high, so if they do it this way, people will lose more. Therefore, many corn growers in Hung Nguyen district are currently in a "dilemma".

According to statistics from Hung Nguyen district, the whole district currently has 400 hectares of spring corn, however, the recent heavy rain has caused more than 200 hectares to fall. Currently, the locality is directing people to erect trees that have fallen or not broken (a small part), mound up the roots, and fertilize them to help them recover. For areas that have completely fallen, the district and the commune authorities quickly called on and coordinated with units torescuefor the people

It is known that not only Hung Nguyen but also districts such as Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Tan Ky also have spring corn areas broken in the recent heavy rain. More than ever, people hope that benefactors, organizations, and unions can join hands to rescue corn for people, helping people reducedamages, just freed up land so people can confidently plant new crops.

In recent years, many localities have converted land areas to grow biomass corn as feed for dairy companies. When planting, people have chosen fast-growing corn varieties with large plants. Although these varieties have produced high yields, in reality, their resistance to storms and heavy rains is much lower than that of conventional varieties. Therefore, in the long term, authorities recommend that people carefully consider and choose corn varieties suitable for the terrain and soil of each region to avoid risks of natural disasters.
