Nghe An: Deploying a model of screening and treatment of hepatitis B for pregnant women
(Baonghean.vn) - The project is funded by the Hepatitis Prevention Fund through the PATH Organization. The implementing unit is the Nghe An Provincial Center for Disease Control. The project implementation area is Dien Chau district and Thai Hoa town. The project implementation period is from April 2022 to July 2024.
On the morning of April 20, Nghe An Center for Disease Control held a workshop to launch the project "Eliminating transmission"Hepatitis Bfrom mother to child: Model of screening and treatment of hepatitis B for pregnant women in Nghe An”.
Attending the workshop were representatives of the Nghe An Department of Health, PATH (an international non-profit organization, a leader in global health initiatives; working to save lives and improve health, especially for women and children), Abbott Company, AMV Medical Group and units in the province.

The aim of the project is to implement a model of screening and preventive treatment for hepatitis B for pregnant women in order to eliminate mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B through strengthening the maternal and child health care system in Nghe An province.
The project was first piloted in Nghe An to provide counseling and screening services for hepatitis B (combined with HIV and syphilis) for pregnant women; increase access to treatment services to prevent mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B (as well as HIV and syphilis) for pregnant women with hepatitis B; accelerate access to universal hepatitis B vaccination within the first 24 hours for newborns; and provide evidence for model replication and policy making at provincial and national levels.

Project activities focus on strengthening the capacity of maternal and child health care systems to implement and sustain effective interventions to achieve the goal of eliminating mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B, HIV and syphilis by 2030.
At the project launch workshop, Abbott and AMV Healthcare Group donated 10,000 HIV and syphilis test kits to the Nghe An Provincial Center for Disease Control.
