Man poisoned, urinating blood after eating Indian laurel leaves

On July 3, the Department of Internal Medicine, Quy Chau General Hospital, received Mr. Lo Van Cuong, born in 1985, residing in Ta Soi village, Quy Chau district, poisoned by eating raw Loc Mai leaves (called Cho Dat in Thai).).
Doctor Tran Anh Tuan - Department of Internal Medicine, Quy Chau General Hospital said: Mr. Lo Van Cuong was admitted to the hospital at 8:00 a.m. on July 3 in a state of fatigue, urinating bright red blood, accompanied by dull abdominal pain, frequent loose stools, and unable to eat or drink.

Mr. Cuong's family said that the family prepared raw vegetables and used Indian laurel leaves to wrap with raw meat. Later, when Mr. Cuong showed symptoms of poisoning, the family took him to the hospital for examination.
Results of clinical examination and blood biochemistry tests showed that the patient was in a weak condition, with pale skin, pale mucous membranes, liver enzymes increased 4 times; hemoglobin (Hb) index decreased; there were many broken red blood cells in the urine....
Currently, patient Lo Van Cuong was transferred to Nghe An Northwestern General Hospital.
"Poisoning from Indian laurel leaves is not uncommon. Quy Chau General Hospital has treated 4 cases of poisoning from eating Indian laurel leaves," added Dr. Tuan.
