Breaking up a group that created Zalo and Facebook to impersonate reputable sellers and appropriate tens of billions of dong
(Baonghean.vn) - Vinh City Police (Nghe An) has dismantled a group of people who specialize in fraud and property appropriation using high technology. Initial evidence shows that the group defrauded 16 billion VND from victims. The police also seized many related evidences including: 2 computers, 6 phones, 5 SIM cards and 4 ATM cards.
The three arrested subjects include: Lam Ngoc Yen (born in 1988), residing in Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province; Pham Ho Quan (born in 1990), residing in Cai Be District, Kien Giang Province and Luu Nhat Truong (born in 1992), residing in Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province.
The trick of this group is to create fake Zalo, Facebook, Viber accounts; then take portraits of reputable online sellers with a lot of interaction to use as avatars for those fake accounts.
The Army and the School have the responsibility to createfake accountgave to Yen. From the obtained account, Yen texted the victims asking them to transfer money before receiving the goods, but in reality the goods did not exist. After taking the victims' money, the subjects proceeded to delete the accounts.

In addition, the police also determined that while living abroad, Yen also texted and made friends with some victims in Vietnam, then asked them to transfer VND into their accounts. When the job was done, she would convert the foreign currency to return it to the victims, however, Yen had already appropriated that money.
According to the investigation results, from 2018 to present, Lam Ngoc Yen, Quan and Truong have appropriated a total of 16 billion VND. Initially, the authorities identified 28 victims of this fraud.
