Quy Chau - A new chapter, a new strength in integration and development.
Over the course of 610 years (1415-2025), the Party Committee, government, and people of Quy Chau district have always upheld the heroic revolutionary tradition, demonstrating dynamism, creativity, and unity, achieving many important accomplishments in various fields, becoming a shining example in the Northwest Nghe An region in its journey of integration and development.
Quỳ Châu is located in the Phủ Quỳ economic zone, the center of northwestern Nghệ An province; it borders Nghĩa Đàn and Như Xuân districts (Thanh Hóa province) to the east, Tương Dương district to the west, Con Cuông and Quỳ Hợp districts to the south, and Quế Phong and Thường Xuân districts (Thanh Hóa province) to the north.
According to numerous scientific studies, in the summer of the 13th year of Yongle (May 13, 1415), in Giao Chi, Dien Chau prefecture, the Ming dynasty government under Emperor Ming Chengzu established Quy Chau; thus, the name Quy Chau, or Quy Chau, as an administrative unit at the prefecture level, officially appeared. Throughout history, this region has had many different names and its administrative boundaries have changed numerous times. From the name Quy Chau or Quy Chau, it is now Quy Chau district.
Throughout that historical journey, the people of Quy Chau have always stood alongside the people of Nghe An and the entire nation, making worthy contributions to the glorious struggle for national liberation and defense.
Particularly during the two wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, the entire district had nearly 4,400 people who contributed to the revolution, including 270 martyrs; 180 wounded and sick soldiers; one collective awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; 12 mothers awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Heroic Vietnamese Mother; and hundreds of cadres and soldiers of the district's armed forces were awarded prestigious Orders and Medals by the Party and the State.
Over the past 610 years, through the ups and downs of history, like all Vietnamese people, the people of Quy Chau have had to face many difficulties, challenges, and hardships—this is an inevitable consequence. However, with their intelligence and talent, under the leadership of the Party and the government, the people of Quy Chau have united their efforts to overcome difficulties, resolve challenges, and strive with determination to develop Quy Chau district to the highest level of innovation and integration.
The economy is growing at a fairly good pace, with an average growth rate of approximately 10% during the 2021-2025 period; the economic structure is shifting in the right direction, reducing the proportion of agriculture and forestry and increasing the proportion of industry, construction, and services; planning and construction of an eco-tourism area linked to the protection and development of native forests in the Ke Le slope area.
Promoting the application of science, technology, and mechanization in production; achieving a good level of budget revenue in the area; per capita income increasing from VND 16.2 million in 2015 to VND 40.7 million in 2025; budget revenue increasing from VND 24.1 billion in 2015 to VND 45 billion in 2025; developing production and business activities with 10 agricultural cooperatives, 6 craft villages, 3 villages with traditional crafts, 15 farms, and 116 family farms; announcing 17 OCOP products. By the end of 2024, 2 communes in the district will have achieved the new rural standard, contributing to socio-economic development.
From a rural area once facing many difficulties, the transportation system has been continuously improved, upgraded, and expanded to meet the needs of the people. Infrastructure has been invested in and built.
From 2021 to 2024, 176 projects with a total investment of nearly 695 billion VND were started in the district, including many key projects that contributed to accelerating socio-economic development such as: the Hieu River embankment, the first phase of the lakeside tourism road, Chau Tien Bridge, Chau Thang Bridge, Chau Binh Bridge, Tong Son Bridge, the district stadium, the Museum of Ethnic Cultures of Western Nghe An, the cultural complex at Hoa Tien community tourism site, and projects under the Ban Mong water reservoir project...
State management in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism has received focused leadership and guidance. The "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement has developed extensively, positively impacting the lives of the people and society as a whole. 100% of villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods in the district effectively implement the regulations; the percentage of culturally exemplary families reached 88.6%; and the percentage of culturally exemplary villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods reached 90.5%.
The overall quality of education is constantly improving; school facilities continue to receive investment; the percentage of excellent students at all levels increases annually, making it one of the leading mountainous districts in the province in terms of the number of excellent students; the percentage of schools meeting national standards reaches 94.5%. The quality of medical examination and treatment is also improving, with 100% of communes and towns meeting the national criteria for healthcare.
In its development journey, promoting the value of nature and history, the district has seen the emergence of many attractive tourist destinations that are creating a value chain from the tourism industry. Place names, village names, mountain names, and river names have become investment hotspots and attractive tourist destinations, drawing visitors from all over, such as: the Hang Bua Scenic Area, the tomb and apple tree of General Lang Van Thiet, and the Hoa Tien village community tourism site (a provincial-level community tourism destination)...
Quỳ Châu is also famous for its renowned culinary specialties such as: natural honey, Mú Từn wine, Pù Huống Ganoderma lucidum mushroom wine; golden flower tea; dried beef, dried buffalo meat, sausage, and pickled bamboo shoots with garlic and chili.
With proud achievements throughout its history, Quy Chau district has been honored with many well-deserved titles and awards such as:
Third-class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam in 2015; Government Emulation Flag in 2020 and 2023; Two Certificates of Merit from the People's Committee of Nghe An province in 2020.
In particular, in 2025, the district was honored and proud to receive the Second Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam for its outstanding achievements in exploiting potential and strengths, developing forest economy and tourism, improving the lives of people in the area, and contributing to the socio-economic development of the district.
In the future, the name of the administrative unit Quỳ Châu district will no longer exist, but in the minds of generations of people, the name Quỳ Châu district will forever endure, associated with the names of mountains and rivers, and immortalized in timeless songs, valuable literary works, and cultural, architectural, and historical landmarks. This has led to the formation of four administrative names at the commune level: Quỳ Châu, Châu Tiến, Hùng Chân, and Châu Bình. These fine traditions will continue to be promoted and nurtured forever.
Continuing to live up to the name of Quy Chau, with a history spanning over six centuries – a name embodying innovative and pioneering thinking; willpower, strategic vision, aspirations for development and prosperity, meeting the expectations of the people of the district and the hopes of the nation.
Naming the commune "Quỳ Châu" will contribute to preserving the long-standing cultural traditions of this ancient land; building a modern and dynamic image for a developing area, creating a unique identity while still retaining the essence of "Quỳ Châu". Quỳ Châu retains its original name, inheriting the culture and history of a "legendary ancient land," continuing the 610-year tradition of the name "Quỳ Châu".
