'For Vietnamese Stature' Fund: Commencement of the Project to Renovate and Upgrade My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Ky Son)
On January 20, in Ky Son district, the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund (VSF) in collaboration with Nong Thon Ngay Nay/Dan Viet Newspaper organized the groundbreaking ceremony for the student dormitory in phase 1 of the project to renovate and upgrade My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.
This project marks the 10-year journey of formation and development of the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund. Phase 1 was successfully funded within 2 months with an implementation cost of more than 2.1 billion VND.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An province; Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghe An province; Mr. Tran Hong Diep - Director of the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund; representatives of local authorities, schools and students.

Poor facilities, difficulties
My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities is located in My Ly Commune, Ky Son District, a poor border district with a poverty rate of nearly 60%. Located 55 km from the district center, the school is home to 345 students, 97.1% of whom are Thai, H'Mong and Kho Mu ethnic minorities.

From the 2019-2020 school year, students from remote locations who have finished grade 3 will transfer to the main location to ensure that they can study IT and foreign languages at school. Although they have received attention and support from the government, the large number of students has led to difficulties in facilities at main schools such as My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

Besides the dormitory area, the sanitation system, outdoor bathrooms, and temporary classroom areas in the kitchen shed are limited facilities. This is the reason why the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund accompanies My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, bringing the children a more spacious and safer school.

With a total budget of 5,150,000,000 VND, the My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School Renovation Project is divided into 3 phases: Phase 1 worth 2.1 billion VND: Construction of a 2-storey dormitory consisting of 10 closed rooms with full bathrooms and toilets, ensuring 167 students have enough living space. Phase 2 and 3: Construction of 2-storey classrooms, kitchen, playground and teachers' dormitory.
The estimated cost for the two phases is 3.25 billion VND.

The project marks a decade of VSF's dedication
Fundraising for phase 1 of the project was launched in November 2024 on the occasion of the fund's 10th anniversary and completed within 2 months.
The total amount of funds raised was more than 2 billion VND from 2,260 organizational and individual sponsors.

“This impressive number not only demonstrates the spirit of sharing and contribution from thousands of individuals and organizations across the country, but also shows the strong influence of the project initiated by the fund. Not only with this project, during 10 years of operation, millions of sponsors have chosen to accompany the fund on the journey to arouse the spirit of social responsibility for a better future for students in mountainous areas”, said Ms. Tran Hong Diep - Director of the Fund "For Vietnamese Stature".

Immediately after the successful fundraising campaign, the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund quickly completed the final procedures so that the project could start as soon as possible, bringing a new learning space to teachers and students of My Ly 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.

This is a project to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund, marking a decade of the fund's dedication to the journey of improving learning conditions for children in mountainous areas in particular and improving social security in general.

When the project is completed, students will live in a clean, comfortable, warm environment in the winter and cool in the summer. The private rooms fully meet basic living needs, helping students to study with peace of mind without worrying about accommodation. This not only improves the quality of life of students but also reduces the psychological burden on parents living far away, helping them feel more secure when sending their children to school.

In the long term, this project is an important milestone in the school's development roadmap, not only upgrading facilities but also creating a premise for us to continue implementing comprehensive educational goals.

"This is also a clear demonstration of the concern and cooperation of the community and organizations such as the "For Vietnamese Stature" Fund, bringing the young generation the best learning and living conditions," said Mr. Nguyen The Vinh - Principal of the school.
