Launching a survey to collect the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 in Nghe An

On July 1, in Con Cuong district, the General Statistics Office coordinated with the Ethnic Committee to organize the launching ceremony of the survey to collect the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024. This is one of 5 localities selected by the Central Government to organize the launching ceremony nationwide.

Attending and directing the launching ceremony were comrades: Y Thong - Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee; Nguyen Thanh Duong - Deputy General Director of the General Statistics Office. On the side of Nghe An province's leaders, there were comrade Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and comrades representing the Central and Nghe An province's working delegations.

The survey, collecting information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 is a statistical survey within the National Statistical Survey Program and is the third survey (the first survey was in 2015, the second in 2019).

The 2024 census of 53 ethnic minorities aims to collect information on population, housing, living conditions of ethnic minority households, culture and cultural preservation of ethnic minorities, and other socio-economic conditions. The census will be conducted from July 1, 2024 to August 15, 2024 using the survey method and direct information collection.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, comrade Y Thong - Deputy Minister, Vice Chairman of the Ethnic Committee highlighted the importance of the 2024 general census of 53 ethnic minorities as the basis for compiling statistical indicators belonging to the national statistical indicator system and the indicator system on ethnic work, serving the Party, the National Assembly, and the Government in formulating and planning policies, strategies, and socio-economic development plans for ethnic minority areas in the period 2026 - 2030; as a basis for updating the information system and statistical data on ethnic minorities in Vietnam. At the same time, assigning specific tasks to levels, sectors, and localities to coordinate in implementing the survey work accurately, promptly, and most effectively.

In Nghe An province, ethnic minority and mountainous areas account for 83% of the natural area, with 7 ethnic minorities with 491,261 people, accounting for more than 14.67% of the province's population. The province has organized training for 130 investigators, participating in the ethnic minority survey in 12 districts and towns in the province. Through the survey, it has contributed significantly to helping the province continue to implement ethnic policies, develop the socio-economy of ethnic minorities in the whole province, especially in remote, isolated and border areas.

After the launching ceremony, the Central and provincial working delegations directly came to supervise, monitor, and participate in the investigation process, collecting information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024 at Chom Muong village, Mau Duc commune, Con Cuong district./.
