After the 'great flood', surrounded by garbage, Vinh market traders sell goods cheaply to save capital
(Baonghean.vn) - Although the peak flood on October 16 has passed for 3 days, the consequences are still severe. The roads around Vinh market are flooded with garbage, and traders have to sell their goods at low prices to save their lost capital.
Vinh market is full of garbage...
On the morning of October 19, the streets around Vinh market were still littered with garbage even though the historic flood had passed for three days. Many sanitation workers tried their best to clean up continuously but could not keep up.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, the head of the sanitation workers assigned to Vinh market, shared: "We have been working hard since the flood receded until today, but the amount of waste and goods is still overwhelming. The traders are taking out more and more trash. In my ten years of working, I have never seen such a record amount of trash at Vinh market. Every night, the workers return home at 1-2 am, and have to wake up early the next morning to continue cleaning up...".

The amount of waste that has been left for a long time has seriously affected the business activities of small traders. Ms. Tran Thi Nhung, a small trader at Dinh Tay market in Vinh, sighed: "The large dump in front of the kiosk gives off a strong stench, making customers not want to come in to buy, they just avoid it. We don't know when we will be able to return to normal."

The huge amount of garbage not only pollutes the environment in Vinh market area but also severely affects traffic here because most of the garbage piles are located in the middle of the roads, with a lot of traffic. People can only "dodge the garbage and go".
The recent flood has caused the amount of waste at Vinh market to increase to a record level in many years, causing the cleanup to be overloaded. Currently, we have sent the Management Board to coordinate with sanitation workers and traders to focus on cleaning up the remaining waste so that people can stabilize their business again.
Small traders sell goods cheap to save capital
The historic flood has caused many kiosks and stores to be heavily flooded, with goods submerged in water. Agricultural products, dried goods, fruits, etc. that cannot be saved must be discarded. The remaining items such as fabrics, clothes, household items, etc. that can still be used are being restored by shop owners to sell at low prices to save capital.

A clothing shop owner on Nguyen Van Cu Street said: "The water rose so quickly that we couldn't transport the boxes of goods below in time, leading to waterlogging. Besides, after the water receded, there was no sun so we couldn't dry them. The clothes were wrinkled and stained, now the only way is to wash and dry them and sell them cheaply to workers and low-income people, to recover some of the capital."
At Vinh market, items that can be repaired are quickly cleaned by vendors and then resold at low prices. A construction equipment vendor said: "Metal items such as iron, aluminum... soaked in dirty water will rust immediately. Now we can only wash them clean and resell them at half the original price, but buyers are not interested..."

That is also the suffering of hundreds of small traders when their goods are affected by the flood. According to the people, if there is no sunshine in the coming days, the goods will be damaged even more because they cannot dry.
