Seminar commemorating 555 years since the name Tuong Duong

A land rich in tradition.

At the seminar, delegates reviewed the history and development of Tuong Duong district. According to them, Tuong Duong was formerly called Muong Sung, belonging to the Bon Man kingdom. After Bon Man came under Dai Viet during the Tran dynasty, this area was called Nam Nung land.

In the 13th century, the Xiangyang region was known as Mizhou, a crucial area bordering important trade routes between the lowlands and the border region. During the Ming dynasty, this area was renamed Tra Long Prefecture, becoming an important administrative center of the Ming.

In 1469, during the 10th year of the Quang Thuan reign, King Le Thanh Tong implemented administrative reforms, shaping the map of Dai Viet. In this important event, the name Tuong Duong was mentioned for the first time as a district, belonging to Tra Lan prefecture. At that time, Tuong Duong district comprised 7 hamlets and 1 ward, and was part of Nghe An province...

Before 1945, Tuong Duong district comprised three districts: Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, and Ky Son. In 1945, Con Cuong district separated from Tuong Duong. Then, on May 17, 1961, the Government Council issued Decision No. 65/CP, separating Ky Son district from Tuong Duong, affirming the district's administrative boundaries.

Currently, Tuong Duong is the largest district not only in Nghe An province but also in the whole country, with an area of ​​280,777 hectares, and 58km of border with neighboring Laos. It comprises 17 communes and towns, and is home to 6 ethnic groups: Thai, Kinh, Kho Mu, Mong, O Du, and Tay Poong.

After 555 years of formation and development, Tuong Duong district is gradually transforming to keep pace with modern trends. Although still facing many difficulties, Tuong Duong remains an important locality in the socio-economic development.

In 2024 alone, the total value of production in Tuong Duong district is estimated at 6,193,268 million VND, reaching 100.1% of the target set by the People's Council Resolution. The growth rate in 2024 is estimated at 7.7%; average per capita income is estimated at 38.4 million VND, an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period...

Inspiring the desire to excel

Attending the seminar, on behalf of the provincial leadership, Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - acknowledged and praised the achievements that the Party Committee, government, and people of Tuong Duong district have made in the past period.

The Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee also emphasized that in the coming time, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the Party committees and authorities from the district to the grassroots level need to continue to preserve and promote the tradition of unity, creating internal strength to drive Tuong Duong's rapid and sustainable development; to awaken the strong will and aspiration to strive for progress in each cadre, Party member, and citizen; absolutely not to wait or rely on others, not to be conservative, but to actively and proactively embrace new things, be creative, bold and decisive, and implement them in a unified manner.

Simultaneously, we will review and implement programs, plans, and projects decisively, synchronously, and effectively, utilizing endogenous resources and actively mobilizing, calling for, and attracting other resources to accelerate and achieve breakthroughs in successfully completing the goals and targets of the Resolution of the 27th Party Congress of Tuong Duong District, term 2020-2025, creating a solid foundation for the 2025-2030 term.

Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu also suggested that the leaders of Tuong Duong district should immediately reorganize the administrative apparatus in accordance with the directives of the Central Government and the province.

At the same time, good preparations should be made for the grassroots-level Party Congresses and the District Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term. This includes seriously reviewing and drawing lessons from past experiences, and clarifying the causes of the failure to achieve the goals of the 2020-2025 Congress Resolution.

From there, decisive solutions have been implemented in leadership, guidance, and the achievement of goals in the coming period, such as the directive and guidance of General Secretary To Lam, which is to draft the congress documents in a way that reflects real life, is concise, easy to remember, easy to understand, and easy to implement, like a textbook. It should clearly outline the direction, resources, and methods, with an action plan, rather than requiring the issuance of numerous resolutions, avoiding the situation where resolutions are still being issued halfway through the term, which are not feasible...

In particular, attention must be paid to personnel selection for the congress, ensuring that individuals for the new term are capable of fulfilling their duties and possess both virtue and talent.

Also at the seminar, the organizing committee awarded prizes to the authors and groups of authors who won in the "Tuong Duong District Emblem Design Contest". The first prize went to author Doan Van Quang (Vinh City).
