Before G hour, the 10th grade entrance exam with 44,000 candidates in Nghe An
Tomorrow (June 5), more than 44,000 candidates across Nghe An province will take the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year. This year, the number of candidates has increased dramatically, the quota for public schools is limited, and many schools have an admission rate of only over 50%, making the exam even more fierce.
Ensure conditions for candidates to take the exam
The enrollment area of Do Luong 3 High School (Do Luong District) spans 10 communes, of which the farthest enrollment area is My Son Commune, nearly 10 km from the school. In previous years, due to difficult travel conditions, many candidates and their parents often stayed temporarily around the school to avoid hardship.
This year, although the number of parents who can stay is not much, Do Luong 3 High School still requires the school's volunteer support team to prepare information about lodging, food, accommodation and other conditions to be ready to support candidates from far away to take the exam.

This year, Do Luong 3 High School was assigned 585 enrollment quotas. Although the number of quotas is higher than previous years, with 743 candidates registering for the exam, the school's admission rate was only 78.3%.
Teacher Vuong Tran Le - Principal of Do Luong 3 High School said: In previous years, our school's benchmark score was often ranked 2nd in the district and much higher than the following top schools. Therefore, with the number of candidates increasing like this year, it is predicted that the benchmark score will still be among the top schools. The opportunity to get into the school is more difficult than previous years...
In order for the exam to take place smoothly, the school has prepared adequate facilities, made backup plans and requested the Department of Education and Training of Do Luong district to increase the number of secondary school teachers to work as exam invigilators. This year, although the weather is forecast to be hot, many classrooms at the school have been equipped with air conditioning. That will make it more convenient for candidates when they come to take the exam.

Ensuring accommodation and meals for candidates and their parents is also a matter of special concern to Boarding School No. 1 and Boarding High School No. 2, because the 982 candidates taking the exam at the school are all from remote mountainous districts of Nghe An province, many of whom are in difficult circumstances.
According to the exam schedule this year, on the afternoon of June 4, candidates will start arriving at the exam site to familiarize themselves with the exam room and check their documents. However, because our school's candidates all live far away, we have informed parents a week in advance about the conditions for food, accommodation, and transportation and have arranged food, accommodation, and activities at the school's dormitory for parents and students in need during the exam period.
As planned, from the morning of June 3, the school began welcoming candidates to take the exam, one day earlier so that they could settle down and enter the exam with the most comfortable mindset.
Teacher Ho Quoc Viet - Principal of Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities No. 2
At the provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, this year the school's dormitory is still under construction, not enough to accommodate relatives and candidates like in previous years. However, to avoid parents worrying or being confused when coming to Vinh city to take the exam, the school has directed the Youth Union to survey all hotels and motels near the school; at the same time, provide all information about accommodation, hotel room prices, and restaurants that ensure food hygiene and safety on the fanpage to help parents have many channels to choose from. The school also promptly interacts with and answers questions from parents and students, creating maximum convenience for students when they come to take the exam at the school.

Before and during the exam days, the volunteer team will be on duty at the school to guide candidates through the procedures and answer any questions. This year, according to statistics, the 2 provincial ethnic boarding high schools each have 255 quotas. However, with nearly 500 students registered per school, it is predicted that the race to enter the province's boarding school will be extremely difficult. This is also a school that many parents trust because the quality of education is always among the top in the province, the annual university entrance rate is over 90%, many students are admitted to the top universities in the country.
Towards a serious and safe exam
According to the Department of Education and Training, this year’s Nghe An 10th grade entrance exam had more than 44,000 candidates registering for 69 public high schools across the province. The number of candidates registering for the exam this year is about 5,000 higher than last school year.

Recently, facing the pressure of rapidly increasing the number of 9th grade students, the Department of Education and Training has had many solutions for localities with a sharp increase in the number of 9th grade students such as increasing classes and increasing the number of students in all classes (mainly increasing from 42 to 45 students/class; some special areas can increase to 46-48 students/class).
For Vinh city alone, the Department of Education and Training has added 3 classes to Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Ha Huy Tap High School, and Le Viet Thuat High School each, and has allowed 3 classes for 10th grade students at Vinh University Practical High School, and increased the enrollment quota for 10th grade students at public high schools near Vinh such as Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc.
However, with a total enrollment target of just over 36,000 students in public schools, it is expected that nearly 8,000 students will fail the 10th grade entrance exam. A summary of the application records for this year’s schools also shows that many schools have high competition rates and low admission rates, even schools that are not in the central region. For example, in Hung Nguyen district, the district-wide admission rate is 69%, while some schools are only 54%.

Vinh City is the locality with the highest competition rate, with schools only admitting 51-68%. This is also the locality with the highest quality of candidates in the province, therefore, the admission scores to schools in Vinh City are often much higher than other schools, including the top schools in the district.
Before the 10th grade entrance exam, Vinh city organized two general exams, which were the final exam at the end of the second semester and the mock exam for final year students. However, the exam results did not ease the worries of schools, parents and students.

Mr. Tran Van Thanh - Le Mao Ward said: I have registered my child for Le Viet Thuat High School - a mid-ranking school in Vinh City but I am still not sure about my choice. In fact, after 2 times of the city's survey, the results of the children have a big difference because the questions are difficult and highly differentiated. I hope that in the upcoming exam, the department will organize it seriously, the exam questions will not be too difficult to reduce the pressure on the children.
In addition to the public 10th grade entrance exam, the entrance exam for specialized schools in the province this year also has many new features and a very high competition rate. For example, at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, classes such as Math, Literature, English, Chemistry, Russian, etc. have a competition rate of 3 to 6 candidates for every 1 student. The scores of specialized schools will be calculated based on the 10th grade exam scores and the specialized subject exam scores, so candidates who want to be admitted need to study all subjects equally and excel in the specialized subject.

At Vinh University High School for the Gifted, the 10th grade entrance exam was organized with many changes. Notably, this year, the school did not take the base score from the 10th grade entrance exam but organized a competency assessment test with 2 subjects: Math and Foreign Language. The specialized subject exam was also organized separately instead of being organized with the same questions and on the same day as the exam of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted like previous years. This change also forced candidates to adjust their study methods to achieve high results in both exams, because according to the school's statistics, this year the rate of candidates registering for the school was quite high, the average competition rate for specialized classes was 5 to 6 candidates for 1.
With the pressure of this year's exam, organizing a safe, serious, and regulated exam will be the basis for creating a fair exam for candidates.
Up to this point, preparations for the exam at 72 exam sites across the province have been completed. The province has mobilized more than 6,000 people to participate in the work of invigilators, presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, security guards, and medical staff. The team of cadres, teachers, and employees mobilized from junior high schools, high schools, and vocational education - continuing education centers in the city, selected based on moral qualities, professional expertise, skills, etc.
The Department will also establish inspection teams to supervise the creation and printing of exam questions, establish 5 mobile inspection teams to inspect exam locations and the exam grading process... In addition, the Department will closely coordinate with departments, branches, sectors and organizations to effectively implement the coordination contents as assigned by the Provincial Exam Steering Committee, ensuring the necessary conditions for the exam to be carried out according to plan, ensuring that no unusual incidents occur.Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of Department of Education and Training
