(Baonghean.vn) - After many days of anxiety, many parents felt relieved when many top schools announced lower admission scores.

Top schools lower admission scores

On July 16, Huynh Thuc Khang High School announced the second round of admission scores with a benchmark score of 23.25.

Along with that, the school also announced the admission score for the IELTS class with a score of 5.5 or higher, according to the IELTS academic English certificate.(IELTS Academic)or equivalent international English certificate scores. In which, students at IELTS 5.5 level need to have an entrance exam score of 22.35 points or higher.

This is good news for many parents and students because according to the school's statistics, although the score was only reduced by 0.25 points, 42 more students had the opportunity to be admitted. In addition, the reduction of the admission score based on foreign language certificates also resulted in 5 more cases becoming official students of the school.

Ms. Nguyen Hien, whose child scored 23.35 points, said: Since the school announced the first round of admission scores, my family has been restless because when registering my child, he only applied to a public school. Indeed, with this score, if my child had to study in a non-public school, it would be too disadvantageous. But now, my family can rest assured because my child has officially passed the entrance exam.

The score of 23.25 is also the final score of Huynh Thuc Khang High School in this year's admission season. Through discussion, teacher Phan Xuan Phan - Principal of the school said: Currently, the school has recruited enough candidates according to the assigned quota. The number of students in the IELTS class has also been recruited enough according to the data updated by the school. Students who are not admitted will still have the opportunity to enter advanced classes and the school will start interviews from tomorrow (July 17).

Also on July 16, Ha Huy Tap High School announced the second round of admission scores with an admission score of 20.2. The admission score for students with an IELTS certificate of 4.0 or higher or other equivalent certificates and admitted to a public school in the 2022-2023 school year. With this lowered admission score, 44 more students with scores from 20.45 - 20.2 have a chance to be admitted.

Teacher Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of the school said: Enrollment in Vinh city is quite complicated because it is related to the enrollment of other schools in the area. If after lowering the standard score, the school does not meet the quota, it will continue to lower the third round and is expected to be announced at 10:00 on July 25.

At Le Viet Thuat High School, 93 more students were admitted after the school lowered the admission score from 20.6 to 19.7. According to the announcement, in the coming time, Le Viet Thuat High School can recruit additional students (phase 3) when it has determined exactly and fully the missing official student information of the school compared to the assigned quota (if any).

Concerns when registering for grade 10 under the new program

Immediately after the benchmark scores were announced, public schools in the province also began admission procedures for 10th grade students.

This is also the first year that 10th grade students will change their textbooks to the new curriculum, so on the first day of school, along with the regular procedures, students will also register for their elective subjects. This change also makes many parents and students wonder.

Before her child entered school, Ms. Nguyen Thao Ngan, whose child had just been admitted to Huynh Thuc Khang High School, spent a day at school to "listen" and consult about registering for elective subjects for her child. Through conversation, she said: I have studied the school's instructions quite carefully and I find that this year's subject registration is quite good because the children can choose the subjects they like, including gifted subjects. My family personally lets the children choose because studying is theirs and if we intervene too deeply, it will sometimes not be effective.

Student Nguyen Gia Bao recently scored 25.25 points in the 10th grade entrance exam and was admitted to Huynh Thuc Khang High School. In addition to registering for classes with a natural orientation, Bao considered a bit when choosing an elective subject: I don't like studying Geography, but if I had to choose between Economics - Law and Geography, I would choose Geography because I think this subject is closer to life and easier to learn. Meanwhile, Economics - Law is a new subject and I don't know how to study it yet.

In many other schools, due to this new regulation, many parents came with their children to the first day of school to learn about the new program and register for courses. To facilitate this, schools have also provided instructions for parents to easily learn about the new program and register for courses.

In general, schools have subject combinations based on natural and social orientation. In addition, students can choose additional elective subjects. However, the number of schools that have art subjects such as Fine Arts and Music is not much due to lack of teachers.

Speaking more about the implementation of the new program and the registration of subjects, teacher Cao Thanh Bao - Principal of Ha Huy Tap High School also said: Initially, if following the new program, many parents and students will be concerned because the subjects are not the same as in previous years. However, when arranging the subjects into groups, we have balanced to "anticipate" the graduation exam in 2025 because it is expected that this will be the first year that the Ministry of Education and Training will change the graduation exam method according to the new program. Therefore, the old way of learning and the old way of thinking according to groups such as A, B, C as present may no longer be suitable.

It is expected that after NV1 schools announce their admission scores, from July 18, the Department of Education and Training will consider admission for schools that recruit NV2 students.
