Nghe An Newspaper visits and gives gifts to relatives of martyr journalists

(Baonghean.vn) - On July 19, a working delegation of Nghe An Newspaper led by Mr. Ngo Duc Kien - Party Secretary and Editor-in-Chief visited and presented gifts to relatives of martyr journalists in Thanh Chuong and Thai Hoa town.

Attending the event were comrade Lam Van Doan - former Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Head of Liaison Committee of Nghe An Newspaper Retirees Association.

This is an activity of "Repaying gratitude", demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the cadres, reporters and employees of Nghe An Newspaper on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2023).

In Thanh Chuong district, a working delegation from Nghe An Newspaper visited and presented gifts to relatives of martyr journalist Dang Loan in Phong Thinh commune.

Journalist Dang Loan was born in 1917, in Lien Giap hamlet, Thanh Binh commune (now Phong Thinh commune), Thanh Chuong district. He was a cadre who was the Secretary of the National Salvation Youth of Cat Van commune; a propaganda officer who won power in Thanh Chuong district, and later a propaganda officer of Thanh Chuong district, Head of the Propaganda Department of Con Cuong district. He was later promoted to Head of the Propaganda Department and Editor-in-Chief of the Western Newspaper, under the Western Department of Nghe An.

Journalist Dang Loan was a man passionate about his work. During the fierce days of the resistance war against the US, he steadfastly stuck to the base, together with reporters, gathered information, edited and published newspapers in full and timely manner, serving the mission of propaganda for the army and people of Western Nghe An.

May 23, 1965, he and journalist Tran Van Thong were on duty at the agency when they were bombed by American planes. He commanded the agency's self-defense force to fight back fiercely and heroically sacrificed himself.

He was posthumously awarded the title of Martyr, the Second Class Resistance Medal, and the Vietnam Journalists Association posthumously awarded the Medal for the Cause of Vietnamese Journalism.

In Thai Hoa town, the delegation visited and presented gifts to relatives of journalist and martyr Tran Van Thong in Dong Tam 1 block, Hoa Hieu ward.

Journalist and martyr Tran Van Thong was born on March 14, 1924 in Cam Thanh commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh town). He joined the revolution from a young age and was admitted to the Indochinese Communist Party (later the Communist Party of Vietnam) at the age of 20. After the August Revolution, he continued to join the Thai Hoa Resistance Self-Defense Team and then the main force fighting in the battlefields of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ngai, and Quang Nam. In 1957, he returned to Nghia Dan and was assigned to be in charge of the District Party Committee Office. After the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee established the Western Steering Committee, he was transferred to work at the Western Nghe An Newspaper (later merged into the Nghe An Newspaper).

On May 23, 1965, while working at the newspaper headquarters, he was buried by an American bomb and went missing. During his years working at the Western Newspaper, he proved to be an excellent soldier on the ideological and cultural front of the Party. He was always proactive and devoted until the last minute to the journalism career of his home province.

On this occasion, Nghe An Newspaper presented a bicycle to Ho Huu Huy (in difficult circumstances), in Con Cuong town, a player participating in the 25th Nghe An Newspaper Cup Youth-Individual Football Tournament.
