In the 2024-2025 school year, Tra Lan Secondary School in the mountainous district of Con Cuong has 170 grade 9 students, of whom 160 are expected to take the entrance exam to grade 10, while the rest will choose vocational training to combine vocational training and cultural studies. Immediately after receiving the exam structure from the Department of Education and Training, the school implemented a serious review plan, ensuring that students had full access to the core content according to the instructions. Photo: Duc Anh

However, due to the regulation that only 2 extra classes are allowed per subject per week, most of the review time must be arranged flexibly or assigned as homework. The school requires teachers to prepare outlines, organize questions, organize corrections, and conduct mock tests similar to real exams. Photo: Duc Anh

In class, teachers have applied many diverse teaching methods to help students learn more easily. In class 9A1, teacher Dao Thi Hoai Thom - Literature subject divided students into groups according to their academic ability: Weak, average, good, excellent. Photo: Duc Anh

Each group is given exercises appropriate to their abilities. Weak students are given basic knowledge to review, while good students are given access to advanced topics. Photo: Duc Anh

Not only does she teach in class, Ms. Thom also creates opportunities for students to learn from each other. Due to limited time in class, she encourages students to study in groups and ask their better friends to help them with difficult knowledge. For social argumentative essays, she asks students to spend time watching the news every day and updating practical issues such as “kind deeds”, “green lifestyle”, etc. These are topics that may appear in the exam. Every week, she organizes regular tests like real exams, helping students get used to the pressure and time management. After each test, she asks students to improve their scores, otherwise she will contact their parents to find the cause and solution. “I also ask parents to collect their children’s phones and technology devices from 8 p.m. and take a photo and send it to me. This helps students concentrate during the important exam preparation period,” Ms. Thom added. Photo: Duc Anh

To provide maximum support to students during the hot season, the school has mobilized social resources to install a purified water filtration system. Photo: Duc Anh

Afternoon classes are moved later to avoid the heat, helping students absorb the lessons better. The school is also considering organizing exam review sessions in the evening, however, because many students live far away, the pick-up and drop-off must ensure absolute safety, so the school is looking for the best solution.
