Ong Hoang Muoi Temple was built during the Later Le Dynasty (17th century) in Xuan Am village, Hung Thinh commune. Despite the ups and downs of time and many restorations and embellishments, the temple still retains its unique architectural art, reflecting the creative thinking and talent of Nghe An artisans at that time.

The temple also preserves many rare documents and artifacts; including 21 royal decrees, Chinese scripts, and statues of historical and aesthetic value. The temple was ranked as a historical and cultural relic by the People's Committee of Nghe An province in 2002; and was recognized as a spiritual and cultural tourist destination in 2018.

In 2019, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized Ong Hoang Muoi Temple Festival as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage (in Decision No. 2970/QD-BVHTTDL dated August 27, 2019).
