In 2019, 236 cases of security violations were handled at Vinh International Airport.

On the morning of January 10, the Government held an online conference to review the work of 2019 and deploy the tasks of 2020 of the National Civil Aviation Committee; prevention work, ensuring absolute security, order and aviation safety in all situations. In 2019, Vinh International Airport had 32 to 34 takeoffs and landings per day, serving about 4,000 to 4,200 passengers. The airport also regularly welcomes special flights serving Party and State leaders and international guests visiting and working in Nghe An and neighboring provinces.

To ensure political security, social order and safety, security and aviation safety at Vinh International Airport, the Provincial Steering Committee for Anti-Terrorism has directed relevant departments, branches and sectors to regularly carry out propaganda work to all agencies and enterprises operating at the Airport to effectively implement the policies and guidelines of the Party and State.

Also in the past year, the Steering Committee issued 22 documents directing and guiding relevant departments, branches and Vinh International Airport to implement the work of ensuring civil aviation security and safety, security and order, and fire prevention and fighting; and well performing the function of controlling entry and exit at Vinh International Airport. Thereby, the political security situation, social order and safety, security and aviation safety at Vinh International Airport were stabilized.

However, there are still issues affecting aviation security and flight safety. In 2019, the provincial anti-terrorism steering committee received and promptly handled 236 cases of passengers violating security by carrying dangerous items, contrary to the provisions of the law; 1 case of illegal entry into restricted areas of the airport; coordinated the implementation of 8 cases of escorting criminals by air; 4 cases of coordinating to grasp the travel activities of reactionary and anti-state subjects; 9 cases of coordinating to monitor the activities of criminal subjects; 1 case of arresting a wanted subject...

In particular, the Provincial Police coordinated with Vinh International Airport to detect and organize 5 operational plans to prevent and neutralize activities that violate national security by reactionary and religious extremists traveling by air to other localities and vice versa to connect and direct activities that violate national security.

To continue to effectively ensure civil aviation security and safety, the provincial Steering Committee for Anti-Terrorism will continue to promote the implementation of solutions implemented in the past; especially effectively combating plots and sabotage activities of hostile and reactionary forces and all types of criminals at Vinh International Airport, and thoroughly resolving violations.

In addition, it is recommended that the National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Vietnam Airports Corporation research and install scientific and technological equipment in airport areas to promptly detect and screen passengers and check luggage and goods that pose a threat to flight safety.
