Improving the effectiveness of state management in religious affairs.

On the morning of January 7th, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to summarize the state management work on religion in 2024 and to implement tasks for 2025.

The religious situation is stable.

In 2024, the religious situation remained fundamentally stable. All levels and sectors have done a good job advising the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee on issuing leadership and guidance documents to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on religious affairs; promptly addressing legitimate needs, resolving difficulties and obstacles, and effectively handling complex religious issues.

The dissemination and popularization of laws has been given attention and implemented by all levels and sectors through many rich and diverse methods and forms, thereby bringing about widespread and effective dissemination among religious leaders, officials, and followers in particular, and all strata of the population in general.

All levels and sectors have closely and synchronously coordinated the implementation of policies and laws on belief and religion. Efforts to win over and engage religious leaders and officials have been given attention and implemented through various forms, creating a close relationship between religious organizations and the government at all levels.

Religious leaders, officials, monks, and followers of various religions have actively organized social charity activities. During the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon alone, monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers from temples, congregations, and associations in the province raised over 4 billion VND in donations; many temples maintained the "bowl of compassionate porridge" program; charitable meals at hospitals in the province were worth 5 billion VND; and visits and encouragement to war veterans, policy beneficiaries, and those in need during Buddha's Birthday, Vu Lan Festival, and other important holidays amounted to 4 billion VND…

The "Effective Mass Mobilization" models in areas with religious communities continue to be maintained and promoted, such as the model of peaceful parishes that revere God and love their country; peaceful sub-parishes that ensure security and order; peaceful parishes that work together to build new rural areas… creating a ripple effect in the community, contributing to strengthening national unity, and promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.

Administrative procedures were promptly addressed by Party committees and authorities at all levels. The Provincial People's Committee approved the restoration of 2 temples, the establishment of 4 parishes, the appointment of 4 abbots, and the dismissal of 1 temple abbot; allocated land and issued certificates of land use rights, ownership of houses and other assets attached to the land for 5 religious establishments; resolved land needs for 23 religious establishments; approved planning adjustments for 19 religious establishments; and granted construction permits for 3 religious establishments…

The staff and civil servants working in religious affairs are generally responsible, and their professional qualifications, skills, and experience are constantly improving.

Addressing legitimate religious needs in a timely manner.

Delivering a directive speech at the conference, Comrade Le Hong Vinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - acknowledged the outstanding results in the state management of beliefs and religions.

At the same time, it was emphasized that in 2025, state management of religion needs to focus on implementing the following tasks:

Continue to implement synchronously and diversely various measures and forms of propaganda and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws on belief and religion; strengthen contact and meetings with religious dignitaries, officials, monks, and influential people in religious organizations to create consensus in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws; do a good job of propaganda and mobilization to unite people of all religions through promoting patriotic emulation movements, building new rural areas, and civilized urban areas...

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh instructed departments, agencies, and localities to pay attention to and guide the timely resolution of legitimate needs of religious organizations in accordance with the law; focusing on preventing and stopping illegal religious activities, especially proselytizing, large gatherings, complaints, obstruction of land clearance for projects, land encroachment, illegal transfer of land, and illegal religious activities.

Comrade Le Hong Vinh also requested that relevant departments and agencies effectively implement the plan to establish the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee and the district-level ethnic affairs office, as directed by the Provincial Steering Committee for the restructuring and streamlining of the organizational apparatus, in conjunction with consolidating and strengthening the organizational structure and the team of officials and civil servants working in state management of beliefs and religions from the provincial to the grassroots level.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Commendation to 5 collectives and 5 individuals for their outstanding achievements in state management of religion in 2024.

Nghe An currently has 495 classified historical sites at various levels (including 475 sites that are religious and spiritual establishments, communal houses, temples, shrines, holy houses, charitable organizations, churches, tombs, memorial areas, etc.).

ButThe Catholic Church has approximately 300,000 followers, 234 clergy including 2 bishops and 232 priests; the Vinh Diocese Bishopric; 345 parish churches and congregations (14 deaneries, 123 parishes, 226 congregations) in 20 districts, cities, and towns with nearly 1,000 followers; and 3 legally recognized religious orders.

Buddhism has approximately 170,000 followers; 75 temples and 1 prayer hall; of which 49 temples have resident monks in 14 districts, cities and towns; 110 monks, nuns and religious practitioners, including 40 resident monks of temples.
