On this occasion, to the mountainous commune of Tien Thanh,Yen Thanh district, everywhere you can see people harvesting eggplant. The eggplant gardens are full of fruit, interspersed with the purple color of eggplant flowers. People said that at the beginning of the season, the selling price at the garden was over 10,000 VND/kg, now although it has decreased to 5,000 VND/kg, they are still excited, because one person can pick 50 kg of eggplant/day, earning hundreds of thousands of VND.

Mr. and Mrs. Nguyet - Mau's family in Nhan Tien hamlet planted nearly 2 sao this year.eggplantin the home garden. Mrs. Nguyet excitedly said: Eggplants are planted from the end of the 11th lunar month, and are ready for harvest in January of the following year. With her family's 2 sao of eggplant, she has so far harvested 4 batches of fruit, selling them to traders for over 2 million VND.

Eggplants have the characteristic of flowering continuously for 5 consecutive months, so they can be harvested until the end of May. Harvesting a crop every 4-6 days, the family is expected to earn 20 million VND from these 2 sao of eggplant. "Growing eggplant requires little capital, these 2 sao of eggplants require a total investment of seeds, fertilizers... about 550,000 VND. Therefore, compared to other crops, growing eggplants gives the highest income," said Ms. Nguyet.

The head of Nhan Tien hamlet, Mr. Dang Van Mieng, said: The eggplant was brought here by the villagers to plant 20 years ago. The sandy loam soil here is suitable for this type of plant, so it grows well, has many fruits, good quality, and should be in season.harvest, traders from all over came to buy everything.

This crop, the whole Nhan Tien hamlet planted 14 hectares of eggplant, of which about 11 hectares were grown in home gardens, the remaining 4 hectares were grown in the fields.

The people of Nhan Tien hamlet are mainly migrants from Nhan Thanh commune, so they have experience in production. Therefore, although every family has a large garden, they do not leave the land fallow. In addition to eggplant, people also grow other crops. Therefore, 99% of the farming households here have a stable income.

Ms. Hoa, an eggplant buyer, said that eggplant is transported to cities and imported to restaurants, hotels, etc. to prepare stir-fried dishes with eel and frog, so consumption is strong.

Mr. Phan Van Vu - Chairman of Tien Thanh Commune People's Committee said: Being a mountainous commune, the land is large, mainly sandy soil, so farmers in the commune, in addition to growing eggplant for high income, also grow other crops: Artemisia vulgaris, sweet potatoes... As for eggplant, this year the whole commune planted about 25 hectares in the hamlets: Nhan Tien, Cau Mang, Cua Tho, Tay Tien... in which Nhan Tien hamlet has the most. Most of the eggplant area is grown in home gardens.

"With decades of experience growing eggplant, Tien Thanh farmers earn 200 million VND/ha, and no other crop has a higher income," Mr. Phan Van Vu affirmed.
