(Baonghean.vn) - To prepare for the construction of the walking street, Vinh City has proposed traffic diversion plans; at the same time, it prohibits all motorized and non-motorized vehicles from entering and exiting during the time the walking street is in operation.

As reported, Vinh city will choose 4 routes to make walking streets, including: Ho Tung Mau Street (from Nai Bridge to the starting point of Nguyen Trung Ngan Street); Nguyen Van Cu Street (starting point intersecting with Ho Tung Mau Street, ending point intersecting with Le Hong Phong Street); Nguyen Trung Ngan Street connecting with alley number 2, Nguyen Trung Ngan Street, ending point intersecting with Nguyen Van Cu Street and Nguyen Tai Street (starting point intersecting with Ho Tung Mau Street, ending point intersecting with Nguyen Van Cu Street).

To implement the walking street, the city has a traffic diversion plan.

Accordingly, all motorized and non-motorized vehicles are prohibited from entering or exiting during the time the walking street is open (Fridays and Saturdays, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.), except for priority vehicles as prescribed by law such as police, military, fire-fighting, ambulance vehicles... when on duty.

It is forbidden to park bicycles, motorbikes, and cars on the sidewalks and on the roadway of the walking street during the operation time. During the walking street operation, the area where the walking street is being implemented and the normal traffic area will be divided by a system of soft barriers at the intersections with the walking streets.

Arrange directional signs, organize the installation of pedestrian street signs at intersections and crossroads. Maps and pedestrian street signs are placed in easy-to-see locations that do not affect traffic.

The alternative traffic plan will be: Using Vuong Thuc Mau Street to replace the walking street section of Nguyen Van Cu. Cars and motorbikes can move from Le Hong Phong Street through Vuong Thuc Mau Street, through the right turn of the Square to Truong Thi Street and the parking lot on the East side of the Square.

Discussing the above issue, Mr. Duong Chuyen - Head of Block 2, Truong Thi Ward said: The block has 180 households, of which 117 households agree with the walking street, because this is an opportunity to improve the appearance of the streets passing through the block. Currently, there are some households on the east side of Nguyen Van Cu Street that are still not connected because this area currently does not have a connecting road to Nguyen Trung Ngan, so it is difficult to travel during prohibited hours.

The ward and the majority of residents strongly support the walking street because this is an opportunity to make the streets of the ward more beautiful and unique. Immediately after the city had the Project, the ward organized propaganda and distributed survey forms to about 500 affected households. The survey results showed that about 180 cars and nearly 500 motorbikes were affected by the road closure. However, after explaining and calculating the travel options, nearly 90% of households supported and agreed with the traffic diversion plan, parking lot planning and road closure proposed by the city.

Mr. Nguyen Tat Thien - Chairman of People's Committee of Truong Thi Ward, Vinh City

Talking to us, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang - Head of the Urban Management Department of Vinh City said: After the Project to open a walking street every Friday and Saturday, the city has developed a plan to divide traffic, block roads, detailed plans for parking lots and install traffic signs to submit to the Department of Transport. At the same time, the city also submitted a plan to renovate sidewalks, carpet some roads and renovate the power grid according to walking street criteria. After being approved by the Provincial People's Committee, Vinh City will assign the Urban Infrastructure Company to organize road painting and signs; assign the City Police to organize traffic guidance. When the walking street is put into operation, the city will arrange forces to propagate specific traffic guidance for the convenience of residents and tourists.
