Heart-stopping moment when passing through a "death" intersection without traffic lights in Vinh city

The 35-meter planned road connecting National Highway 46 to Lam River Road (commonly known as Road 35) after being put into use has changed the face of the suburban communes of Vinh.

However, there is a potential risk of accidents at intersections with this route, especially the intersection with Le Quy Don Street, in Nghi Duc Commune, Vinh City.

According to the reporter's observations, there is a large amount of traffic at this intersection, especially during rush hour. Vehicles passing through the intersection "everyone goes their own way" in a very chaotic manner, honking loudly, not complying with road safety regulations. There are even many large trucks speeding on the road, making everyone's heart skip a beat.

Mr. Pham Van Hoang in Hamlet 7, Nghi Duc Commune, who lives near this road, said: "Traffic accidents happen here every week, sometimes 2-3 times a day. Although there have been no deaths, there are many emergency and critical cases, and we constantly have to run out to assist the victims. Vehicle collisions happen like clockwork..."

According to records, this intersection has many shortcomings that cause unsafety for road users.

Firstly, the intersection is not perpendicular but diagonal, causing pedestrians to have limited visibility. Secondly, at this intersection there are no traffic lights or signs that read "slow down", "accident prone area"...

Not to mention, at this intersection there is also an inner-village road, connecting from hamlet 7 to hamlet 8, Nghi Duc commune, also running through, so this can be considered a 6-way intersection with a lot of traffic day and night.

"Although we have repeatedly petitioned local authorities to install traffic lights to reduce accidents, we have not seen any action for a whole year," said a resident of Nghi Duc commune.

Discussing this issue, a representative of Nghi Duc commune government said: In fact, the lack of traffic safety at the intersection of Road 35 and Le Quy Don has been reported by the people many times, this is also a concern of the locality, however, the commune does not have enough authority to build and install traffic lights, therefore, it has proposed to the city to have a plan to direct and overcome this traffic black spot.

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Duc - Head of the Urban Management Department of Vinh City, the city has compiled and compiled statistics on black spots of traffic accidents in the area, including the intersection of Le Quy Don Street and Highway 35, and sent them to the Traffic Safety Committee of Nghe An Province to have a plan to soon install traffic lights and signs in these areas, ensuring safety for people traveling.
