Valedictorian of the 10th grade entrance exam: “Don’t get the easy questions wrong”
In the 10th grade entrance exam, Hoang Phuong Thao - class 9A, Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School (Do Luong) took the entrance exam to Do Luong 1 High School and was the valedictorian with a score of 28.75, including 9.5 points in Math, 9.25 points in Literature, and 10 points in English.
To prepare for the transfer exam, Thao arranged and balanced her time between studying and entertainment, prioritizing time to practice questions, especially mock tests from schools in the province. In the days leading up to the exam, Thao reviewed basic knowledge to advanced lessons. For English, she studied key topics that often appeared in entrance exams and specialized exams to avoid small mistakes and unnecessary oversights in the process of doing the test.
When entering the exam room, Thao must be mentally prepared, comfortable, confident in the amount of knowledge she has acquired, read the questions carefully and not get the easy questions wrong, and study the difficult questions carefully.
Before that, to improve her knowledge of all subjects, Thao often focused on listening to her teachers in class and completing all assigned homework at home. For English, in addition to her lessons at school, Thao also looked for other sources of learning materials such as good books and websites for reference. On her days off, Thao practiced writing new words in her notebooks, searched for and solved exam questions on English forums and blogs, and after finishing, Thao compared her answers to gain experience.

From a young age, Thao showed herself to be an intelligent and studious girl. Thao's academic achievements were impressive. In grade 5, Thao participated in an English competition and won the Sasmo Silver Medal. When entering grade 6 at Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, Thao was valedictorian with a score of 44.75, including an additional 2.5 points for achieving high results in a number of competitions.
Also in grade 6, Thao won the Gold Medal in the TIMO English Math Competition. In grades 6, 7, and 8, she won prizes in district-level English competitions. In grade 9, she won first prize in the district-level English competition for excellent students and a provincial-level encouragement prize.

Commenting on Hoang Phuong Thao, Mr. Nguyen Cong Tien - Math teacher, homeroom teacher said: “In class 9A, Hoang Phuong Thao is an intelligent student, very diligent in studying, good at all subjects. She is especially talented in English. Besides, Thao is a very active student and organizes activities very well, is the deputy in charge of studying in a class with many good students. Thao is always enthusiastic, takes the lead in studying, creating a very good learning environment in the class.
English teacher Le Xuan Diep shared: “Thao’s class 9A is an excellent group, the students are good at all subjects. Especially, the foreign language learning movement of class 9A is very strong, many students have passion and are really talented in learning foreign languages, so in the recent entrance exam to grade 10, many students got high scores”.

This result was partly due to the coordinated efforts of the three teachers: Mr. Nguyen Cong Tien, the homeroom teacher, who taught Math, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thao, who taught Literature, and Mr. Le Xuan Diep, who taught English. All three teachers closely followed the 10th grade entrance exam matrix, and had appropriate lesson plans for each group of students to help them achieve the best scores.
Being the valedictorian in the 10th grade entrance exam of the whole province is not only an honor for Hoang Phuong Thao personally, but also a joy for the teachers and the whole Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School.
Saying goodbye to Thao on a summer day, Thao softly said: "Here, I would like to send my sincere thanks to my parents, my gratitude to the teachers of Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, and my friends - those who have given me motivation and always supported me throughout my 4 years of secondary school. I hope that on the road ahead, I will continue to reap more success in my studies and training."
