Right in the districtMr. SonSince the beginning of the school year, there have been two drowning incidents that resulted in the death of a 7th grader and a 12th grader. In addition, a 3rd grader died in a traffic accident.

Inspection of the actual work of preventing and combating drowning accidents at many schools in Linh Son and Tao Son communes, the town area and Anh Son 1 and Anh Son 2 High Schools also showed that the risk of drowning in the area is currently very high, especially in communes located along the Lam River and schools along Highway 7. In addition, the communes also have irrigation reservoirs and fish pond systems of households with potential risks of drowning accidents.

During the inspection, the working group also directly investigated the current situation at some ferry terminals along the Lam River, inspected the safety work at schools as well as documents related to this content. Anh Son district also shared some difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process due to complex terrain, some students still have poor awareness and lack of close attention from their families, many cases of drowning children are parents working far away and the children stay at home with their grandparents.

Meanwhile, the facilities for organizing life skills education activities are limited, and swimming facilities are few, so the number of students who know how to swim is low.

Strengthen inspection and promote propaganda

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training - Head of the inspection team also determined that "whether it is drowning or traffic accidents inside and outside the school, the education sector is also responsible". Therefore, the inspection carried out by the education sector in the past 2 years will be an opportunity for the sector to have a full view of the current situation and risks of drowning and injury accidents. On that basis, we will also listen to the difficulties from the grassroots and discuss solutions to promote the prevention of drowning accidents in the coming time.

Based on the above reality, the inspection team also requested the Department of Education and Training of Anh Son district and related departments and branches to continue to promote propaganda work, raise awareness and responsibility of schools, students and the community in preventing and combating natural disasters, especially drowning and traffic accidents.

In addition, it is necessary to promote socialization, seek funding sources, and mobilize social resources to popularize swimming for children and students to improve swimming skills and skills to prevent drowning accidents for children and students.

Along with Anh Son district, on this occasion, the Department of Education and Training also established 3 inspection teams to inspect the implementation of traffic safety and drowning accident prevention in Yen Thanh, Tan Ky districts, Thai Hoa town, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Vinh city, Cua Lo town, Do Luong, Anh Son and Con Cuong.

Through that, we aim to evaluate the leadership and direction of the Department of Education and Training and schools in organizing and implementing drowning prevention work, the results, limitations, shortcomings and implementation solutions.
