13 years in prison for drug possession in hotel

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of March 21, the People's Court of Quy Hop district tried the criminal case against Hoang Ngoc Tien (born 1995) in Quang Phong ward, Thai Hoa town for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".

According to the indictment, at about 8:30 p.m. on July 14, 2017, in room 303 of Hoang Dinh Hotel, Tan My Hamlet, Tam Hop Commune (Quy Hop), the Drug Crime Investigation Police Team of Quy Hop Police discovered and caught red-handed, confiscating from Hoang Ngoc Tien 1 transparent plastic bag containing a white solid crystalline substance suspected to be synthetic drugs, 1 mobile phone, 1 leather wallet containing 101,000 VND, 10 polythene bags, 1 motorbike with license plate 37X1-3495.

At the investigation agency, Tien confessed that the package of white crystalline solid substance that the police seized belonged to a woman named Thao, who lives opposite the 3/2 gate (Quy Hop), who brought it to the hotel for use.

Examination No. 825 dated July 18, 2017 of the Criminal Technical Department, Nghe An Police concluded: The white solid crystalline substance sample seized from Tien and sent for examination was synthetic drugs, weighing 95.74g. Based on the sealed records, determination of the weight of the examination sample, the camera extraction records, the confrontation and other documents in the file, there is sufficient basis to conclude that Tien committed the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".

Regarding the subject named Thao, whom Tien said brought drugs to the hotel room, the investigation agency conducted an investigation but had no results, so there was no basis for handling.

The drugs were confiscated for destruction. Other seized assets included a telephone, a leather wallet containing 10 polythene bags and VND101,000, which were determined to be the defendant’s property and should be returned to the defendant.

Based on the evidence and documents examined at the trial; based on the results of the debate at the trial on the basis of full and comprehensive consideration of the evidence, opinions of the Prosecutor, the defendant and other participants in the proceedings. The panel sentenced Hoang Ngoc Tien to 13 years in prison for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics" under point m, clause 2, article 194; point p, clause 1, article 46 of the 1999 Penal Code.
