According to the district’s report, in 2017 and the first quarter of 2018, the district’s socio-economic situation continued to develop. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, the economic growth rate was estimated at 7.4%, up 0.5% over the same period.

The economy is shifting in the right direction with the proportion of industry and construction tending to increase; agriculture is developing in depth, improving production efficiency per unit area.

The construction of new rural areas continues to be focused, with 54.2% of communes reaching the new rural target and Hung Tan commune is building a model new rural area. The district also focuses on site clearance associated with the implementation of key projects, such as: VSIP Nghe An, 72m road, central park lake of the town...

The cultural field has many positive changes. National defense, security, social order and safety are maintained. Attention is paid to the work of Party building and political system building, contributing to improving the capacity of leadership, direction and implementation of political tasks in the locality.

At the meeting, based on the analysis of the potentials and advantages of Hung Nguyen, representatives of leaders of a number of departments and branches suggested directions for the district in the coming time.

According to Director of the Department of Construction Hoang Trong Kim, the VSIP project will be the driving force for the development of services and supporting industries; therefore, Hung Nguyen needs to proactively attract and orient people to develop in this direction, thereby increasing income and improving life.

Concerned about the agricultural sector, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Hoang Nghia Hieu suggested that Hung Nguyen focus on attracting businesses to participate in this sector, forming sustainable agricultural production chains, especially taking advantage of more than 1,000 hectares of alluvial land to create vegetable, root and fruit production areas and more than 2,400 hectares of fertile land to develop high-quality fruit trees.

Leaders of some sectors also suggested that the district pay attention to rearranging the organizational apparatus, streamlining the payroll, linking with the team structure, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the operations of State administrative agencies at all levels and public service units.

Take care of building a team of teachers, plan a reasonable network of schools, rearrange the organization of schools, thereby improving the quality of education in the district...

Concluding the meeting, besides acknowledging the district's concerns and determination in implementing local political tasks, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong also pointed out a number of shortcomings and limitations.

It is noteworthy that the speed of economic restructuring is still slow, without any outstanding spearheads and commensurate with the potential and advantages of the district.

To fulfill this requirement, first of all, the district must do a good job in planning, planning management and land management; promote the application of scientific and technical advances and high technology in agricultural production; pay attention to exploiting and developing service, trade and tourism sectors; especially eco-tourism and spiritual and cultural tourism associated with the preservation and promotion of historical and cultural relics in the area.

Regarding key projects being invested in the area, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the district to coordinate with departments and branches to speed up the implementation of the Soviet - Nghe Tinh Square project items, ensuring service for the 90th anniversary of Soviet - Nghe Tinh Day (September 12, 1930 - September 12, 2020).
