24 months in prison for stealing goats
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 28, the People's Court of Nghia Dan district (Nghe An) held a trial of defendant Phan Van Thang, whose permanent residence is in Le Loi block, Quang Tien ward, Thai Hoa town, for the crime of property theft.
According to the indictment, at around 2:00 a.m. on April 3, 2018, Hoang Van Thanh (commonly known as Ba Linh), residing in Chong hamlet, Nghia Yen commune (Nghia Dan district), invited Phan Van Thang, born in 1968, residing in Le Loi block, Quang Tien ward, Thai Hoa town, to steal goats to sell for spending money and Thang agreed.
Hoang Van Thanh drove motorbike 37H - 562.20 carrying Phan Van Thang along National Highway 48D to Nghia An commune. Then, entering the house of Mr. Au Van Buoi, born in 1946 in hamlet 1, Nghia An commune, Thang and Thanh stole 3 goats weighing 64kg, worth 6 million 480 thousand VND.

During the investigation, Thang also stated: At around 1:00 a.m. on September 30, 2017, Thang, along with Hoang Van Thanh, Dang Quang Van, and Nguyen Khac Hoa, all residing in Dong Hieu, Thai Hoa town, stole 4 goats from Mr. Ngo Van Can in hamlet 7, Nam Lam commune (Dien Chau district) weighing 121 kg, worth 10 million 920 thousand VND; then sold them to Nguyen Khac Hoa. Hoa paid Phan Van Thang, Hoang Van Thanh, and Dang Quang Van each 1.2 million VND, which Thang spent all of for personal use.
The total value of assets of Mr. Au Van Buoi and Ngo Van Can's family appropriated by Phan Van Thang and his accomplices is 17,400,000 VND.
At the trial, considering that the defendant Phan Van Thang had honestly confessed his guilt, applying Clause 1, Article 173 of the Penal Code, Phan Van Thang was sentenced to 24 months in prison.
