Crop rotation on alluvial land in Thai Hoa

(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the fertile alluvial land, in recent years, people in the suburban communes of Thai Hoa commune have expanded their cultivated areas, converted seedlings, and applied scientific and technical advances to production, bringing high efficiency.

Ms. Le Thi Hoan, Quang Phu block, Quang Tien ward said: Since 2004, the family has always maintained about 5 sao of corn and other vegetables in the Vinh Doi alluvial land above, with low care costs but quite high productivity. On average, each sao of corn yields from 3 to 3.5 quintals while cultivating in the field, investing more in fertilizer and care, but the highest year only yields nearly 2 quintals.

Currently, Quang Tien ward has 4 alluvial land areas including Lo beach, Cay Sung beach, Upper Vinh Doi, Lower Vinh with a total area of ​​nearly 20 hectares.Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Vice Chairman of the ward said: In recent years, people have rotated crops, increased crops and applied scientific and technological advances, gradually introducing high-yield and high-quality varieties of corn, peanuts and sugarcane into production.

In addition, people also diversify their vegetable crops such as tomatoes, carrots, kohlrabi, and cabbage. To increase the value per unit area, farmers in the area have recently developed a raw corn area that brings in a value of over 90 million VND/ha. In the coming time, to improve the efficiency of the alluvial land, the ward plans to develop a project to develop a clean and safe vegetable growing area here.

In the alluvial area of ​​Con Vang block, Quang Phong ward, Mr. Phan Van Hoa said: Every year, during the dry season, the alluvial land lacks irrigation water, which greatly affects the family's agricultural cultivation area.

However, corn and sugarcane grown in the riverside area are quite suitable and grow quite well, so he calculated and changed crops. In the 2016 sugarcane crop, on an area of ​​0.5 hectares of sugarcane KL92-11 variety, his family harvested 45 tons and earned more than 40 million VND, the highest ever.

Similarly, in Nghia Tien, Nghia Hoa and Tay Hieu communes... currently, people have been focusing on planting KL92-11 sugarcane variety on an area of ​​over 50 hectares in the land along the Hieu River, where the soil has high humidity. The characteristics of this sugarcane variety are dark green leaves, large sugarcane stalks, long internodes, small eyes, good disease resistance, and an average yield of 85 - 90 tons/ha.

According to Mr. Le Sam - Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Thai Hoa town: Currently, the whole town has 268 hectares of alluvial land stretching across 6 wards and communes. Here, people mainly cultivate vegetables, corn and sugarcane in 2 crops: from February to June and from September to February of the following year. The economic efficiency is estimated to be 30 to 50% higher than that of two-rice land. Currently, some alluvial land areas have formed concentrated crop areas, favorable for production and care with high efficiency.

In the coming time, the town will work with the authorities of wards and communes to develop specific plans and roadmaps for developing seedlings in the alluvial land. Focus on investment in irrigation; at the same time, clearly identify high-value upland crops on fertile alluvial land to organize and direct production. Organize a sustainable agricultural cultivation system on the alluvial land well, thereby awakening and exploiting to the maximum the advantages and potential of a fertile alluvial land, contributing to improving the lives of people living along the river./.
