Expanding Vinh International Airport to serve 7 million passengers/year

(Baonghean.vn) - From 2020 to 2030, Vinh airport will build a second runway, ensuring operations for modern aircraft, expanding the parking lot from 9 to 15 positions and the terminal serving 7 million passengers/year.

On the afternoon of August 2, under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien, the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the working delegation of Vietnam Airports Corporation - CCTP (ACV) led by Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation on the Vinh International Airport Development Investment Project.

Speaking at the meeting, a representative of Vietnam Airports Corporation affirmed that Vinh airport has now begun to be overloaded, affecting the travel needs of the people. Therefore, expanding the planning, renovating and upgrading some items of Vinh International Airport is very necessary.

According to the planning approved by the Ministry of Transport, the upgrading of Vinh Airport is divided into specific phases: Phase 2015 - 2020 will maintain the existing runway, expand 9 aircraft parking positions and the terminal will serve 2.5 million passengers/year; Phase 2 from 2020 to 2030 will build runway No. 2, ensuring operations for modern aircraft, expanding the parking lot from 9 positions to 15 positions and the terminal will serve 7 million passengers/year.

It is expected that project items such as Expansion and renovation of aircraft parking lots, upgrading of aviation technology lines from the domestic terminal to the international passenger terminal and the project to install a passenger bridge at Vinh International Airport Terminal will start construction in 2019.

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation requested the Provincial People's Committee to direct relevant agencies and units to coordinate with the Airports Corporation to complete site clearance and hand over land to implement projects.

Specifically, coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to work with the Ministry of National Defense on the policy of land allocation for the construction of aircraft parking lots; direct relevant agencies to coordinate with the Northern Airport Authority and ACV to implement steps for compensation and site clearance work so that it can be implemented in parallel with the project investment preparation time, handing over no later than the second quarter of 2019 to start construction of the terminal and auxiliary items in the second quarter of 2019.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thanh Dien highly appreciated the cooperation of Vietnam Airports Corporation with Nghe An province in upgrading Vinh airport to become an international airport. He affirmed that the upgrading of Vinh airport has greatly contributed to attracting investors to Nghe An in recent times.

The province agrees and highly agrees with the policy of upgrading and expanding 5 projects at Vinh International Airport in 2019; at the same time, it affirms that it will direct relevant agencies to get involved and coordinate with Vietnam Airports Corporation to remove difficulties and obstacles in site clearance work, in order to hand over land to investors to implement the project on schedule.
