Improving the quality of women's work in the new situation

On the morning of June 27, in Vinh City, the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women organized a workshop on "Developing a plan to implement Directive 21-CT/TW dated January 20, 2018 of the Central Party Secretariat on continuing to promote women's work in the new situation" and "Solutions to promote women's participation in political, economic, cultural and social fields".

In recent years, awareness of the role and position of women, women's work and gender equality has changed positively. Women increasingly assert their important role and position in society; the proportion of women participating in the National Assembly, People's Councils, and Party Committees at all levels has increased compared to the previous term; the proportion of women with jobs each year accounts for 42.6% of the total workforce; 80% of women in poor rural areas and ethnic minorities receive preferential loans and vocational training.

However, in practice, the training, fostering and use of female cadres in some places has not been given due attention; the proportion of female cadres in planning at all three levels is still low; some levels of government have not had effective solutions in enforcing laws, mechanisms and policies on gender equality.

In particular, there are still cases of trafficking of women and children, domestic violence, violence, and sexual abuse of women and children... The representative of the Provincial Police said that in the first 6 months of the year alone, the authorities received and handled 10 cases related to gender-based violence with signs of crime, 1 case of child abuse, 4 cases of human trafficking, child trafficking... The victims of the above cases are mainly women and girls with 14/15 victims (accounting for 93.3%).

At the workshop, delegates from departments, branches and localities presented papers on difficulties and obstacles in actual operations and made many proposals to improve the quality of women's work in the new situation. At the same time, thoroughly grasped the content of the Notice of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on the implementation of Directive No. 21-CT/TW on promoting women's work in the new situation.

Accordingly, continue to widely propagate to raise awareness and responsibility about the role and position of women, about women's work and gender equality; complete and periodically and annually monitor policies on gender equality, female cadre work, legal advice and support for women; focus on training high-quality female human resources; focus on many solutions and resources to support women in starting a business...
