Breaking up a large-scale lottery gambling ring in Vinh city

(Baonghean.vn) - Under the direct direction of the leaders of Nghe An Provincial Police, the Criminal Police Department, Provincial Police has just coordinated with related forces to successfully break up a large-scale gambling case in the form of recording lottery numbers, arresting and summoning 17 related subjects.

Accordingly, through the work of grasping the situation in the area, the Criminal Police Department, Nghe An Provincial Police discovered a gambling ring in the form of recording lottery numbers with many participants and large transaction amounts in Vinh city.

After a period of monitoring the situation, using professional measures, on March 15, 2023, the Criminal Police Department, Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with the Department of Professional Affairs of the Ministry of Public Security and Quan Bau Ward Police (Vinh City) to mobilize forces to deploy dozens of working groups to simultaneously arrest and search the residences of 17 subjects residing in Vinh City, seizing 181 million VND in cash; 1 tablet, 20 mobile phones and many related exhibits.

The police identified Le Thi Thuy (born in 1969), residing in Quan Bau ward, and Le Khac Toan (born in 1980), residing in Ha Huy Tap ward, as the two ringleaders of the gambling ring. Thuy had three previous convictions for "Gambling". Apart from Thuy and Toan, the remaining suspects were all "agents" in this ring.

Initially, the authorities proved that the amount of money the subjects gambled by betting on lottery numbers on March 15, 2023 alone was more than 974 million VND.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department, Provincial Police have temporarily detained the subjects and consolidated the case file, prosecuted the defendants for the crime of "Gambling", and continued to fight and expand the project./.
